8-Month Pregnant, Hubby Demands I Cook His Birthday Feast

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

I nodded silently, my heart heavy with the doctor’s words as he walked away. Just as I was about to sit down and rest, Theo barged into the room, yanking me back to my feet. He pointed at Jenny, still lying in the bed, and snapped, “Apologize to her!”

I felt the blood rush to my head. “What? Me? The troublemaker?” I shot back, my voice shaking with anger. “Did you even hear what she said to me tonight?”

Theo’s eyes flared with fury. “You’re carrying my child! You should be the one making peace, not throwing a fit. If you hadn’t caused all this drama, Jenny would’ve been home safe. She wouldn’t have been hit by a car.”

I let out a bitter laugh, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “So it’s my fault now? She insults me, but I’m the one in the wrong?” I glared at him, my hands on my hips. “Theo, you’re so blind. When she disrespects me, she’s disrespecting you too. Do you even realize that?”

For the first time in five years, I looked at him with such coldness, it made his face twist in anger. His eyes were red, and I could see the frustration bubbling over. But before he could respond, Jenny, still lying on the bed, began sobbing.

“I’m sorry! This is all my fault. I didn’t mean to upset Amy. Please don’t fight over me. It’s my fault, all of it!” she cried, her voice breaking. “Once I’m better, I’ll resign. I won’t bother you two anymore.”

Theo, barely holding himself together, clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. “This is the last time I’m saying it, Amy! Apologize to her!”

I shook my head, my expression hardening. “I’ve told you before—she’s just a little girl. Don’t stoop to her level.”

I stared at him for a long, silent moment, then turned and walked out of the room without a word.

Theo’s voice followed me, laced with fury. “If you leave, don’t ever come back! You’ll be crawling back to me soon enough, begging for forgiveness. And with that belly of yours, you’ll have nowhere else to go!”

Tears pricked at my eyes, but I didn’t slow down. I kept walking, ignoring the curious stares of the people in the hallway.

Outside, the rain was still coming down in sheets. I wandered through the storm, drenched, in nothing but my thin pajamas. The cold wind cut through me, but I barely felt it.

The hospital was in a remote area, and there were no taxis to be found. I tried to flag one down, but it was useless.

The baby inside me had grown still, sensing my distress. The quiet unnerved me, but I kept moving forward.

After two hours, the rain finally stopped, and I managed to walk three kilometers to the nearest hotel. I checked in at 4 a.m., exhausted and numb.

As I paid for the room, a notification popped up on my phone. It was a post from Jenny.

In the picture, Theo was holding a steaming bowl of soup, his hands gently massaging her swollen ankle.

The caption read: “Sweet words don’t compare to soup at dawn. The one who loves you never complains. Thank you, Theo.”

The post quickly racked up likes, mostly from Theo’s friends—the same people who had always treated Jenny with a special kind of affection, while looking down on me.

I could almost hear the lies Theo had told them about me. The desperate, clingy wife who couldn’t hold onto her man.

Just as I was about to put my phone away, the comments started rolling in:

"Wow, Theo, you can do everything! I never knew you were a pro at making soup too. So unfair!"

"Next time we get together, you better make some for us, Theo! Show off those skills in front of Jenny!"

"Wait, didn’t you once say you’d never do anything for a woman? What a joke! Only our Princess Jenny could change that!"

Each comment felt like a dagger. I had been married to Theo for five years, yet in their eyes, I was still just the wife who didn’t matter. No marriage certificate, no respect, no nothing.

I shut off my phone, feeling the weight of it all, and threw myself onto the bed.

For the first time, I didn’t worry about Theo calling me in the middle of the night, asking me to come pick him up from some hotel.

I slept through the night, undisturbed, and when I woke up, it was already noon. My phone was flooded with Theo’s messages.
