Chapter 5
Chapter 5
I was the only one frozen in place, my body trembling, drenched in sweat. The deafening crash of the steel frame falling hit me like a wave. Theo was already shielding Jenny, his body a barrier between her and the chaos.
The steel frame crashed just inches from me. A little closer and it would’ve pierced my abdomen.
But Theo—he didn’t even look at me. He didn’t check on me. As soon as the lights flickered back on, he rushed out of the theater, carrying Jenny in his arms without a second thought.
It was the rescue team who helped me out. Once I was outside, I looked around desperately for Theo, but he was nowhere to be found.
I couldn’t hold back the knot in my chest.
The rescuers, clearly concerned, insisted I go to the hospital for a check-up. That’s when I saw him. Standing in line at the emergency room, paying Jenny’s bills like nothing had happened.
"Well, you’re lucky, Amy," Jenny’s voice sliced through the air, cold and venomous, so different from her usual sweet tone.
I gave her a flat look. "Resilient, just like you, huh?"
I didn’t even look at Theo anymore. My gaze fixed on his back as he handed over the money, and that was the final straw. My heart shattered. All the feelings I’d clung to for so long were gone. There was no point anymore. I was done.
Then, Jenny's hand shot out toward my stomach, her smile twisting into something darker. A wave of unease spread through me. I slapped her hand away, but it was too late. She gripped my wrist and threw herself backward, stumbling toward the staircase. Her bracelet snapped off and shattered on the floor as she fell.
Before I could react, Theo rushed past me like I wasn’t even there. He shoved me aside with so much force that I went tumbling down the stairs. My stomach slammed against the wall, and everything went numb.
Pain exploded in my body, and I could barely catch my breath. Through the haze, I gasped, "Theo... help me..."
But he didn’t look back. He didn’t even flinch. He just scooped up Jenny and rushed into the emergency room.
I felt myself slipping into darkness, but before I lost consciousness, I heard the doctor’s frantic voice. “Prepare for emergency surgery! We need to induce labor now…”
I heard him mutter, "Even if she wants to keep the baby, it might be too late."
“Get ready for the abortion. It was already scheduled,” someone else snapped.
And in that moment, I gave up. I closed my eyes, letting the world slip away.
Then, I heard it. Theo’s voice, sharp and panicked. “What? Where’s my wife?”
Wife? Was I still his wife?
