Chapter 1
Chapter 1
James' first love, Sophia, had a breakdown and jumped off a building.
In a fit of rage, James dragged me, eight months pregnant, to a drop tower ride and ordered his men to strap me in.
"If it weren't for you pushing Sophia, she wouldn't have spiraled like this!" he snapped, his eyes burning with fury.
I froze, panic clawing at my chest. Terrified of heights, I begged him, tears streaming down my face, to let me go, swearing I'd never go near Sophia again.
But he didn't even flinch. He just shook his head coldly.
"For the sake of our child, I won't divorce you," James said, his voice hard as stone. "But you'll pay for what you did to Sophia. A hundred, a thousand times over."
He set the ride to go for an hour, then turned and walked away without another word.
The tower began to rise, and my heart thudded in my chest. I screamed, struggling against the restraints, my fear eating me alive.
When the tower finally reached the peak and my body went weightless, hot fluid gushed from between my legs.
Three days later, James finally remembered I was still up there.
"Emily, Sophia's fine now," he said, almost casually. "If you kneel down and apologize to her, I'll let you off the ride."
What he didn't know was that the drop tower had turned into a bloody nightmare. Our child, the one he was so obsessed with, had been lost in the fall, its tiny body crushed and torn apart...
Dr. Zhang had called him earlier that morning. "She didn't show up for her prenatal check-up," James said, his voice tight with frustration. "What's she trying to pull now?"
The old butler, his face pale, stammered, "Sir, Mrs. Miller hasn't been let down yet. And she's terrified of heights, she doesn't even go to the second-floor balcony normally. She's in her late pregnancy, too. I hope nothing's gone wrong..."
James stopped, his brow furrowing in confusion. "Really? Emily's afraid of heights?"
Before the butler could answer, James waved him off dismissively. "It's just a drop tower, not like she's jumping off a building. Let her face her fear so she'll learn not to mess with Sophia."
The butler didn't dare say anything more, but the manager of the park couldn't hold back. "But sir, three days ago, when it first started, she was crying her eyes out. Later, she went completely silent. She's carrying your child, don't you want to check on her?"
James' expression went from blank to disgusted.
"I knew she was faking it. How else could she sit there without a sound? Emily's always been so manipulative. Fine. Let her stay up there for another day. Tomorrow, we'll bring her to kneel in front of Sophia and apologize, and then we'll be done with this."
With that, James waved the manager off and walked to the bedroom.
When he entered, Sophia was lying in our bed, half-naked.
James approached her, his eyes dark with desire. He kissed her, slow and deep, before she even had a chance to react.
Sophia, barely awake, weakly pushed him away. "James... this is your and Emily's bed. If she finds out... she'll be heartbroken."
"And about before," she added softly, guilt lacing her voice. "I loved you too much. I thought if I died, Emily wouldn't fight with you over me anymore. I didn't mean for you to punish her for me. I'll go apologize to her."
Seeing her like this, James couldn't resist any longer. He roughly shoved the porridge aside and pinned her down, his hand sliding over her breast as he pressed her beneath him.
"Sophia, you're too kind. If it weren't for you, I'd be dead. Everything you've done, your fear of heights, it was all for me. When I think about how someone as gentle and loving as you was pushed to the point of jumping off a building by Emily, it breaks my heart. But next time, even if she's carrying my child, I won't hesitate. I'll make her pay for everything..."
