Chapter 6
Chapter 6
As I sifted through the messages, Linus called again. I was slow to react, and my finger accidentally hit the answer button.
On the other end, his voice came with an unexpected sigh of relief.
"Naia, aren't you so brave for not answering your phone? Can't keep up the act any longer?"
"Do you realize the chaos your reckless actions have caused in the orchestra?"
"Themis thinks it's her fault; the poor girl has been crying for days. You need to stop this charade and come back to apologize to her!"
"Otherwise, I might seriously reconsider the marriage certificate situation!"
Linus's tone was cold, laced with a superiority that clearly intended to manipulate me.
I smiled, a wave of determination washing over me. "You don't have to worry about that, Linus. I've already said we're broken up."
With that, I hung up, blocked his number, and deleted him from WhatsApp.
I opened my social media and posted a statement:
I have only held a wedding with Mr. Linus, but we have not obtained a marriage certificate. We are now officially broken up. Thank you all for your concern.
Almost immediately, my comment section exploded with messages of support from friends.
What!? After eight years, Linus hasn't even secured a marriage certificate with you!?
He wasted eight years of your life and has nothing to show for it; what kind of person is this!?
What are his artistic achievements worth if his character is so poor? I'm officially boycotting this scumbag!
Even colleagues from the orchestra chimed in, offering their sympathy.
Hugs to Naia! Some manipulators have been pulling their little tricks for ages. Congratulations, beautiful, on freeing yourself from the scumbag; now it's time for you to shine!
Exactly! That little brat named Themis will get what's coming to her; sister, let your light shine!
With many comments throwing insults at Themis, I felt a swell of gratitude for their support. But deep down, I knew the blame couldn't lie entirely with her. Linus was the real cause of it all.
After laying the situation bare, I saw it as a definitive break from my past.
To my surprise, our story went viral and started trending in searches. Someone in my social media circle couldn't resist leaking my post along with photos of Themis and Linus cozying up to the reporters.
As one of the top figures in the music industry, Linus was already under the public's watchful eye. Once the scandal broke, his reputation tanked.
Along with him, Themis found herself in the crosshairs, labeled as the mistress. Countless reporters reached out for interviews, but I turned them down one after another, determined to focus on propelling Jarren into the international spotlight.
What I hadn't expected was that Linus would go to extreme lengths to try to reconnect with me.
When he called me from a friend's phone, his voice sounded heavy, worn out.
"Naia, I admit it, you've won."
"With Themis's scandal out in the open, everything is ruined, and my career's taking a hit, too."
"Come back and hold a press conference with me to clarify this misunderstanding. Then we can get the marriage certificate and make a joint announcement."
"That should satisfy you, right?"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. How could he still not understand what was happening?
I almost laughed, my anger bubbling up. "Linus, I've told you from the start that we're done. Just accept it. We're over. Please stop bothering me."
