Dear Ex-Wife, Back My Son!

Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Anika felt as if blood was leaking from her right ear.

She froze in situ.

Mireya looked at Anika, her weak, incompetent daughter, feeling sorry for herself.

She picked up the file on the coffee table and handed it to Anika.

"Take a close look.

"This is your way out I've picked for you."

Anika took over the document and saw the words "Prenuptial Agreement" printed on the cover.

She opened the file.

On the file, it read, "Anika will voluntarily marry Duncan Morrison to be his wife, and she will take care of him for the rest of his life..."

It also stated that Duncan ought to provide for the Carey family, where Anika came from, and provide 50 million dollars to the Carey family.

Duncan was one of the senior entrepreneurs in Oasisville, and he was now 78 years old.

Anika was tense.

Mireya continued, "Mr. Morrison has said that he didn't mind that this will be your second marriage. As long as you marry him, he will help our family get back on our feet."

Mireya looked at Anika with anticipation. Then she came forward and put her hand on Anika's shoulder.

"Anika, you're a good daughter. You won't let me and Eli down, right?"

Anika's face grew paler.

She clutched the agreement in her hands. "Joshua and I haven't divorced completely yet."

Mireya looked indifferent.

"Mr. Morrison said you could hold the wedding first and register it later.

"Joshua doesn't love you anyway. I respect your choice and agree with you divorcing him."

Mireya knew that she could not save Joshua and Anika's marriage.

Therefore, she chose to listen to Eli. She intended to maximize Anika's value one last time while Anika was still young.

Hearing Mireya's words, Anika felt that her throat was stuffed.

"Can I ask you a question?" Anika paused. "Am I really your daughter?"

Mireya's expression froze.

Her disguise of being good-tempered vanished. She started to accuse Anika.

"If it weren't for you, why would I ever be out of shape? If it weren't for you, I would have still been a world-renowned dancer! You let me down!"

Since childhood, Anika had never understood why other people's mothers loved their children unconditionally.

Yet Mireya, her mother, wouldn't love her even the slightest.

She still didn't get it.

Yet she figured one thing out. She no longer expected others to love her.

She put the agreement away. "I can't say yes to that."

Mireya didn't expect Anika to refuse her just like that and was furious.

"Who are you to say no to me? I'm the only reason you're in this world!

"You'll do whatever I tell you to do!"

Hearing that, Anika looked directly at her. "Then if I give my life back to you, I won't owe you anymore. Is that right?"

Mireya was stunned again.

"What did you say?"

Anika parted her bloodless lips. "If I give you back my life, will you no longer be my mother, and I will not owe you for giving birth to me?"

Mireya didn't believe Anika's words at all. Mireya sneered, "Alright then.

"As long as you give me back your life, I won't force you to do anything.

"The thing is, do you dare?"

Anika seemed determined. "Give me a month."

Mireya felt like Anika was crazy right now.

She pushed the agreement back in front of Anika.

"If you don't dare to die, sign it."

With that, Mireya went out in high heels.

Eli was waiting at the door and heard their conversation.

He asked Mireya, "Mom, she won't do as she says, will she?"

Mireya's face was cold. "If she dares to die, she will be my idol! Anyway, she grew up with the nanny and has never been close to me. I've never thought of her as my daughter."

They didn't walk away far.

Therefore, Anika heard their words.

She thumped her aching ear and felt that sometimes she wished she were deaf.

She crouched in the corner alone.

She suddenly felt that she was nothing but a failure in her life, as she had never lived for herself.

When one was depressed enough, one would want to find a place to get rid of the emotion.

That evening, Anika went to the bar.

She sat in the corner drinking wine, watching the crowd singing and dancing happily, absent-minded.

A handsome man with charming eyes noticed that she was alone. He walked up to her.

"Anika?"

Anika looked at him, not recognizing him, and asked, "Do you know how to be happy?"

The man was confused. "What did you say?"

Anika kept drinking and said, "The doctor said I was ill and should cheer up, but... I can't cheer up..."

Hearing her words, Trent Hume felt complicated.

He thought, "She doesn't remember me?

And what's wrong with her that she needs to cheer up?"

"If you want to be happy, you shouldn't come to places like this.

"Let me take you home," Trent said gently.

Anika smiled at him, "You are such a gentleman."

Trent looked at her bitter smile with mixed feelings, wondering what she had been through in these few years.

She seemed extremely sad.

Meanwhile, Joshua was here as well.

He had indulged himself every night since the last time he went to get a divorce with Anika. He hadn't gone back to Rafter Villa for a long time.

It was getting late, and the group was about to leave.

Just then, Violet noticed the familiar figure in the corner.

She was surprised. "Isn't that Ms. Carey?"

Joshua looked in the direction Violet was pointing and saw a man in front of Anika, chatting and laughing with her.

Joshua's face went gloomy at once.

He thought, "She got drunk at a bar and met someone.

I thought highly of her indeed.

This is who she is.

Who told me that she would only love me her entire life?"

"Joshua, do you want me to go ahead and ask?" Violet asked.

"No need."

Joshua replied coldly and walked quickly out.

Meanwhile, Anika turned Trent down. She said to him, "I can go back myself without bothering you."

Trent was still worried. Seeing her go out, he followed not far behind her.

Joshua sat alone in the car, unbuttoning the top two buttons of his shirt, still frustrated. Halfway through, he asked the driver to turn back.

He bumped into Anika, who was heading back.

He asked the driver to stop the car, and then he quickly got out and walked over to her.

"Anika."

His familiar voice awoke Anika at once.

She looked up at Joshua who was coming toward her, feeling that she was in a dream.

"Joshua..." Then she quickly readdressed, "Mr. Conan."

Approaching her, Joshua realized that she put on light makeup today.

After they got married, she had never worn makeup.

He had forgotten that he said that he did not like women with makeup.

"Do you know what you look like now?" he parted his lips, saying.

Anika gawked at him.

He said, "A ghost, with your makeup.

"What man would dig a woman like you?"

She turned sober instantly.

Her voice cracked. "I know nobody likes me.

"I don't expect anyone to like me..."

Joshua felt upset.

"If there's nothing else, I'm going back." Anika walked forward.

Joshua wanted to ask her who the man was.

Yet he didn't.

They were about to get a divorce anyway, so, what was the point?

***

Anika went back alone.
