Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Anika thought, "You are suggesting to me? Clearly, you are lecturing me!
"In the past, everyone, including Joshua's family, Payton, his secretaries, and even the servants from the old mansion, got to lecture me.
"And I could do nothing but force a smile and look grateful.
"But now, I don't want to make myself aggrieved anymore."
She slightly tightened her hands, which were at her sides.
Then she looked at Payton coldly. "What does it matter to me if he's mad?
"If nothing else, I'm leaving."
Payton felt that his heart trembled at her cold look.
By the time he came back to his senses, Anika had closed the door from the inside.
It was the first time someone closed a door to Payton's face.
He thought, "In the past few years, I have always been the one who was indifferent to Anika. How come everything is reversed now?
"Does she really not want to please Mr. Conan anymore?"

Anika knew that Payton would definitely tell on her to Joshua after Payton came back.
She sat wearily on the sofa, waiting for Joshua's censure.
She was right. After Payton went back, he told Joshua what had happened here in an exaggerated way.
On this day, the windows clanged in the strong wind.
Anika curled up on the sofa. It was early summer, but she felt cold.
An unknown period of time had passed before the doorbell rang. It took her a long while to hear it.
She got up and opened the door, knowing without looking who was standing there.
His tall, straight figure made her look so petite.
She looked up at Joshua's deep, black pupils and calmly opened her mouth, saying, "Did Mr. Burke tell you?"
With a gloomy face, Joshua threw a stack of photos in front of Anika.
"I wanted to leave you with dignity at first."
Anika was stunned.
She lowered her head and saw the photos of her and Trent.
In the photos, because of the photo taker's position, they looked a bit intimate. Other than that, there was nothing wrong with the photos.
Before she could explain, Joshua added, "I thought it was all a misunderstanding. I thought you were simple. I thought of starting over with you."
Everything was "he thought".
She felt a roar in her ears and a bitter pain in her throat. Her voice was hoarse when she spoke.
"Is that so? Then I'm sorry to let you down."
They were married for three years.
She regarded herself as a dutiful wife, as she had never gotten involved with any man.
Yet in the end, she was framed and slandered like this.
Anika's eyes were moist. She suppressed her grievances and calmly looked at Joshua. "In this case, we should get divorced soon. I'm sorry I didn't make it last time. This time, I won't."
At first, Joshua thought Anika would explain.
To his surprise, she offered to divorce him again.
He could no longer suppress his fury. He approached Anika.
"You can't wait to be with him, can you?
"Do you know him at all? If it weren't for me, do you think any man would want you?"
Cornered by him, Anika listened in disbelief to his most vicious words.
She thought, "What does he mean by saying that? If it weren't for him?"
Joshua didn't stop. He placed his big palms on her thin shoulders.
He realized that she was even skinnier than the last time. There were practically all bones left in her body...
His heart trembled. He didn't get it. How could she be this skinny?
"Don't touch me!"
The burning sensation made Anika come back to her senses. Her eyes turned red, and she wanted to push Joshua away.
Yet it was to no avail.
A healthy woman was not necessarily a match for a man.
Let alone her, a woman with deteriorating health...
He kissed her intently, and outside the window, the rain seemed to be heavier.
Anika lay on the cold bed, her ears roaring, her stomach convulsing.
