Chapter 9
Chapter 9
The judge delivered the divorce verdict right then and there. Along with the evidence of Brian's secret transfer of funds from the company, he was ordered to pay for all my losses following the divorce. Thankfully, the court froze his accounts and began deducting from them before he could move any money. The financial crimes alone were enough to keep him in jail for a long time.
When the judgment was read, Brian's eyes burned with anger and hatred. I left the courtroom holding the verdict in my hands, but suddenly, someone grabbed my wrist from behind. I didn't know how Brian had managed to escape, but his eyes were full of rage. He ground his teeth, hissing, "We've been married all these years. How can you do this to me? We're husband and wife! You can't really send me to prison!"
I turned to face him, my expression cold. "I'm just getting what I deserve. You want revenge? Believe me, I could destroy you if I wanted to."
Before Brian could fire back, the staff behind him rushed forward and quickly restrained him, pinning him to the ground. His eyes turned bloodshot with fury, but he couldn't break free. With one last look of pure hate, I walked away from him, my back straight.
The news of the trial results, along with the company's financial troubles, hit the internet later that day. Public opinion swung in my favor, and the stock price started climbing again. I sat in the office for a while, letting it all sink in. Once I was sure the company was out of immediate danger, I finally allowed myself to exhale.
"Thank God my father's hard work wasn't in vain."
That night, for the first time in weeks, I slept soundly. Overcoming this hurdle meant the company would only grow stronger from here on out. With the boost in public support, we had free publicity that doubled our sales. In just a month, I had recouped ten times the losses from the funeral.
With the financial burden behind me, I grabbed the file and drove to my father's grave. I paused, looking at the photo of him with his kind smile, and whispered softly, "You're blessing me, aren't you?"
The wind was the only answer, but I knew deep down he was still with me. Now that I had shed the weight of Brian's betrayal, nothing could hold me back. The future was mine to claim.
