Chapter 2: Alone in the Villa
Chapter 2: Alone in the Villa
After patching up my wounds, I dragged myself into bed. Outside, thunder rolled through the sky, echoing the storm inside my chest. I curled into a ball, wrapping my arms around myself, trying to keep the loneliness out.
My mind wandered back to that night years ago—the night I lost everything.
It was raining then, too. The night my parents died in a car crash.
Back when I still had someone who loved me more than anything.
When my aunt flew in from abroad, desperate to take me back with her, it wasn't her who won. It was Kyle and Kevin Grant—the boys next door—who stood in her way.
They bought the house next to the Evans estate, moved in without a second thought, and swore to my aunt they'd take care of me.
And for a long time… they did.
Two golden boys who had everything handed to them—money, charm, status—yet still changed their lives for me. Kyle learned to cook just so I'd eat something comforting after school. Kevin switched his major to fashion because I once said I liked sketching dresses.
When the thunder scared me, they slept on my floor just to keep me company.
From preschool art shows to college graduation, they never once missed a milestone.
They even joked about reincarnation—how they'd built homophones of my name into theirs, so no matter what, we'd find each other again in the next life.
"Lynn, we'll always protect you. No matter what."
That was the promise Kyle and Kevin made when we were eighteen.
And stupidly, I believed them.
I thought that kind of promise was forever. Unshakable. Eternal.
Then came Jenny Foster.
The sweet, quiet scholarship student the Grants took in. An orphan girl they sponsored out of kindness.
"Don't worry, Lynn. You're family. Jenny's just passing through."
That's what they said in the beginning.
At first, both of them kept their distance from her. Polite. Detached. But little by little, Jenny found her way in.
The things they used to do only for me? She got versions of them too. Eventually… she got more.
And just like that, I was no longer the center of their world.
Every conversation included her name. Every concern, every decision—somehow, it all came back to her.
I fought it at first. I cried. I begged. I screamed.
But all I got in return were cold stares and condescending words.
"Stop acting like a brat, Lynn. Jenny would never behave like this."
The same boys who once swore to love me unconditionally now scolded me like I was some jealous outsider.
That's when it hit me—forever doesn't exist.
How could I have believed the promises we made as kids?
Still… some part of me held on. Because twenty years of love and memories doesn't just vanish, right?
At least, that's what I thought—until the day we fell off that cliff.
Until I watched them run right past me and into Jenny's arms while I bled out on the rocks.
No hesitation. No second glance.
Just Jenny.
That's when I realized, the girl they swore to protect wasn't me anymore.
Kyle. Kevin.
You were right about one thing, the Evans heiress always survives.
But you're about to learn something new.
