Framed for a Hit-and-Run Reborn to Expose My Wife and Her Ex

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

As soon as Liam Reed, the so-called "knight in shining armor" for Hannah, heard my words, he only made things worse.

"Zach, stop twisting everything!" Liam yelled, his voice cracking with panic. "You must've bribed the cops—and Detective West, too!"

The officers had already pinned Liam down, dragging him toward the center of the chaos. But the crowd wasn't buying it.

"Detective West is one of the most respected men in this city! He's all about integrity!"

"We journalists know him better than anyone! Don't slander his name!"

Liam kept thrashing, struggling like a wild animal as the officers tried to restrain him. Hannah, on the other hand, was trying everything she could to stop them from taking him away.

But the onlookers had seen enough. No one was rushing to help Liam or Hannah. Even the victim's family, who had been burning with anger toward me just moments before, was now shooting their furious glares at Liam.

Hannah, realizing she was losing control, whirled on me. Her face twisted in rage, and she stormed toward me, raising her hand to slap me.

"Zach Sullivan, you miserable bastard! How dare you frame Liam for what you did!"

I caught her wrist mid-swing, stopping the slap in its tracks.

"Frame him?" I said, my voice cool and sharp. "I haven't framed anyone. All I've done is expose the truth. Unless… you're worried there's something incriminating in your texts with Liam that you forgot to delete?"

The crowd gasped.

"This is getting shady. If she's innocent, why is she trying to slap him?"

"Yeah, check Liam's phone! There's probably something on there."

"Wait, didn't Liam seem way too aggressive earlier? He was the one pushing things. Something's definitely off."

Detective West didn't waste a second. He pulled Liam's phone out of his pocket and unlocked it using his face.

Liam immediately started thrashing harder, yelling in a panic.

"That's private property! You can't just go through my phone! That's illegal!"

Meanwhile, Hannah froze, her face going pale. She clutched her own phone, but then, in a sudden burst of fear, she slammed it to the ground, shattering it into pieces.

The crowd gasped louder.

"Why would she destroy her own phone?"

"She's hiding something! There must've been evidence on it!"

The victim's family's grief quickly morphed into seething anger, their eyes burning with rage as they turned on Hannah and Liam.

The officers, now scrolling through Liam's phone, exchanged looks of concern as they reviewed his texts. I knew Liam had probably deleted everything—but people always forget about cloud backups. Most don't even think to clear those.

Liam sneered, trying to act confident.

"There's nothing on my phone. Not a single message. Go ahead, keep looking."

The crowd wasn't fooled.

"He deleted everything. Of course, there's nothing left."

"Exactly! Only a guilty person would go that far to cover their tracks."

"This guy's the real scumbag!"

Liam smirked and glanced at the officers, acting like the whole thing was beneath him.

"Well, you've seen my phone. Are we done here? Hand it back."

I stepped forward, my smile icy.

"Sure, you wiped everything off your phone. But did you remember to wipe your cloud backups?"

Liam's smug expression vanished. His face drained of color.

The officer holding the phone immediately followed my suggestion, opening up Liam's cloud storage. Seconds later, panic replaced his arrogance.

"Give it back!" Liam screamed, his voice cracking. "That's my phone! Hand it over, now!"
