Chapter 10
Chapter 10
When we got back, Lucas kept his promise and had William admitted to the best private hospital.
He even hired a tutor to help him catch up on his studies.
As for me, I spent my days surrounded by designers, trying on different makeup looks and hairstyles, selecting fabrics, choosing a wedding venue.
It was strange. The last time I was engaged to Lucas, I hadn't been involved in any of this.
And oddly enough, since coming back, I hadn't seen Vivian at all.
Given that I was about to marry her son, I expected her to have something to say.
Lucas arranged for me to stay in an apartment near his company, saying it would be easier for him to take care of me.
That evening, he came home late from work, looking exhausted.
I hesitated before showing him the wedding venue design plans.
I wasn't sure if my taste aligned with his. The guest list would be full of elites, and he was more familiar with what was expected.
Lucas barely glanced at the plans before nodding.
“Whatever you like.”
I frowned. “You didn't even look at them. Don't blame me if people criticize it later.”
He loosened his tie, his expression casual. “It's our wedding. As long as you're happy, what does it matter what anyone else thinks?”
Then, with a straight face, he added, “Honey, I'm hungry.”
“…Don't call me that. We're not married yet.”
And besides, that word should be reserved for Emma.
Lucas tilted his head, pretending to think. “Then what should I call you? Aria?”
My name sounded surprisingly nice coming from him.
I felt my face heat up and quickly pushed him away before heading into the kitchen.
I made him a bowl of noodles and then retreated to my room.
Since returning, we had been sleeping separately.
But just as I was about to get into bed, there was a knock at my door.
“Aria, my air conditioner's broken.”
It was the middle of summer, definitely not a night to sleep without AC.
I opened the door to find him standing there, pillow in hand, his hair slightly disheveled. He looked… oddly pitiful.
“Then… sleep on the floor?” I suggested.
Lucas didn't even hesitate. “The master bed is huge. Why waste the space?”
And just like that, he strolled in and made himself comfortable on my bed.
I stared at him, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious.
“Come on, sleep. What, are you shy?” He raised an eyebrow. “It's not like we haven't slept together before.”
“This is different.”
“How?”
“….”
Back when he was blind, I didn't think twice about changing in front of him.
Now that he could see, everything felt different.
Awkwardly, I climbed into bed, right at the edge.
Once the lights were off, I found myself too tense to sleep.
He used to tease me at night.
But after a while, I heard the steady rhythm of his breathing.
I let out a silent breath of relief.
And yet, deep down, I felt a strange sense of disappointment.
As expected.
I wasn't Emma.
I didn't matter to him at all.
