I had planned to take him to a nearby café to talk.
But the moment Lucas noticed the grocery bags in my hand, he insisted we go to my place instead.
I had no choice but to give in.
With a reluctant sigh, I unlocked the door.
The noise must have caught William's attention because he quickly came over.
Dressed in casual home clothes, he smiled at me, his face still a little pale.
"You're finally back. Are we having soup tonight?"
Then, he noticed Lucas.
His smile faded.
Lucas met his gaze, and the air between them tensed in an instant.
William tugged at my sleeve, his voice wary.
"Sis, who's this?"
Lucas let out a cold laugh.
"Sis?" His eyes darkened. "So, you like younger guys now?"
I shot him a glare, about to shut him down.
But William had already caught the implication in his words.
Face darkening, he grabbed Lucas by the collar.
"What the hell are you talking about? Want me to punch you?"
"Go ahead," Lucas said coolly, rolling up his sleeves as if welcoming a fight.
I had never seen him this childish before.
Annoyed, I quickly stepped between them.
"Enough! He's my brother, my actual brother!"
Silence.
Lucas recovered fast.
In an instant, his entire demeanor shifted.
With a smooth smile, he reached out to shake William's hand.
"Oh, your brother. My mistake. Just a misunderstanding."
William crossed his arms, unimpressed. "And you are?"
Lucas smiled wider.
"I'm not just anybody." He glanced at me, his voice laced with amusement.
"I'm your brother-in-law."
