His Perfect Trap, My Perfect Revenge

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Adjusting the hem of her dress, Chelsea moved through the event hall alone, graciously mingling with guests while waiting for Magnus to return.

But an hour ticked by. Still no sign of him.

The knot of unease in her chest tightened. Finally, she slipped away to search for him.

As she turned a corner, raucous laughter spilled from a nearby private room.

"Hahaha, Jeff, you sure this stuff actually works?"

"Absolutely. Pulled some serious strings to get it. Trust me—after tonight, Chelsea's done for."

At the sound of her name, she went completely still.

Holding her breath, she inched closer to the slightly cracked door. Through the gap, she saw Magnus sprawled lazily on a couch, idly spinning a small packet between his fingers. His brow was furrowed, but his eyes were hollow—cold and empty.

"Damn, Jeff, didn't know you had those kinds of connections," Michaela drawled, strutting over in her heels before plopping down beside her brother. She snatched the packet from him, inspecting it with a smirk.

"One dose tonight, and by morning, my brother catches her in bed with someone else? Boom—game over. Then her family's shares are ours."

She rolled her eyes, irritation dripping from her voice. "If her dad hadn't blackmailed my brother into this marriage with those shares, Sabrina never would've left. They'd still be together. This is all Chelsea's fault."

Then she jabbed Magnus with her elbow. "Hey. Don't tell me you're actually falling for her. Sabrina's back tomorrow—remember?"

"She's just a pawn. A way to save our family. Nothing more."

Magnus's voice was ice. He barely glanced at the pill in Michaela's hand.

"Just figuring out how to get her to take it," he said casually.

His words sliced through Chelsea like a blade. An hour ago, he'd held her, kissed her, whispered sweet promises. Now? Now he was scheming to drug her and toss her into another man's bed.

They'd met in college, always neck-and-neck for top honors. Their families did business, so their paths kept crossing. Somewhere along the way, she'd fallen for him.

But back then, his heart belonged to Sabrina.

Chelsea never interfered—she buried her feelings deep.

Then, three years ago, Sabrina vanished overseas. Not long after, Magnus proposed.

She later learned the truth: his family was drowning in debt, and her father's condition for bailing them out was their marriage.

She'd considered walking away. But she loved him—too much to let go.

And for three years, he'd been good to her. Tender. Attentive.

Or so she'd thought.
