Chapter 266 - 264: Her Biological Father
Chapter 266 - 264: Her Biological Father
The man was slightly taken aback, but his gaze was gentle as he gave her a small nod. "I was wearing a scarf outside just now. I didn’t think you’d still be able to recognize me."
Mia Grant pointed to his watch and ring.
Although she hadn’t gotten a clear look at his face outside, she had still taken note of some of his features.
Besides, it hadn’t been that long. ’My memory isn’t *that* bad.’
Mia Grant studied the man’s face, and the more she looked, the more familiar he seemed.
’It’s like I’ve seen him somewhere before.’
There was something about his eyes and brows that felt incredibly familiar...
’Where was it?’
She couldn’t quite place it. Lost in thought, her gaze drifted aimlessly until it inadvertently met Kian Keller’s.
"..."
She froze, not quite understanding the look in his eyes.
It was as if he was trying to tell her something.
Kian Keller sighed in resignation and pulled his gaze away, his eyes landing on the figure across from them. "Mr. Sinclair," he said coolly.
Yuri Sinclair’s eyes curved into a smile as he replied, "It’s been a while. The last time we met was five years ago, wasn’t it?"
"Yes," Kian Keller replied, his tone still cold and detached.
Clearly, he hadn’t wanted to greet him in the first place.
He glanced at Mia Grant out of the corner of his eye and, just as he expected, found her staring at him wide-eyed, the very picture of shock.
’Mr. Sinclair.’
Mia Grant turned her stiff neck and peeked at the man across from them, her gaze meeting his smiling eyes.
The man gave her a slight nod, a silent greeting.
"..."
Mia Grant’s breath caught in her throat.
’This man in front of me, who looks like he’s only in his thirties... is Yuri Sinclair???’
Judging by Carla Sinclair’s age, Yuri Sinclair had to be nearly fifty by now.
’How could he be so well-preserved?’
It wasn’t that Mia Grant’s eyesight was failing her; the man simply exuded an air of refined elegance from head to toe. His hair was impeccably styled without a single strand of white, and his face was free of wrinkles.
She used to think that celebrities on TV who didn’t look their age owed it all to filters.
’Turns out it really is possible to maintain one’s looks this well.’
Once the initial shock wore off, she began to study him carefully.
After a long moment, Mia Grant still felt a sense of disconnect.
She thought he might try to speak with her, but he didn’t.
After that one simple nod, he averted his gaze and went back to drinking tea with his friend.
Mia Grant was completely bewildered.
’Could it be that Yuri Sinclair didn’t recognize me? Does that mean our meeting today was really just a coincidence...?’
Mia Grant didn’t think so.
She glanced at Kian Keller, and they exchanged a look.
’I don’t want to stay here anymore.’
He stood up. "Do you still want snacks? I can have some sent to our room."
Mia Grant shook her head and tightened her grip on his sleeve.
Kian Keller took her hand in his, giving her a sense of security.
As they left, he didn’t spare Yuri Sinclair a single glance, simply taking Mia Grant’s hand and walking straight out.
Only after their figures had disappeared did Yuri Sinclair set down his teacup and look toward the corridor.
"She’s got some skills, wrapping Kian Keller around her little finger like that."
Hearing this, Yuri Sinclair turned to face the man across from him, his brow furrowing. "That’s your niece. Don’t say such embarrassing things. Miles, you’ll make me unhappy."
The other man was speechless. Ignoring a nearby sign, he brazenly lit a cigarette, took two puffs, and then continued, "It’s not certain she’s my niece yet."
"All we can say is that she really does look like Gwen York, but at most, that just proves she’s Gwen York’s daughter. As for whether she’s your flesh and blood... tsk, don’t get your hopes up."
"It’s one thing to fool others, but if you do it for too long, you’ll end up fooling yourself too."
Yuri Sinclair watched him in silence.
The other man raised his hands in exasperated surrender. "Fine, fine, she’s your daughter. But from the looks of it, she has no intention of acknowledging you."
"She ran the second she recognized you. What does she think you are, some kind of monster?"
"Today was too sudden. She wasn’t mentally prepared and got scared. We were too abrupt. There’s no rush to acknowledge our relationship. We can take it step by step."
"No rush?" Miles Sinclair flicked the ash from his cigarette. "If there’s no rush, then what have you been doing this past week? You didn’t go back to Portia, and you haven’t been answering your phone."
"Those who know, know you’re here looking for your daughter. Those who don’t would think you’ve been kidnapped."
"Anyway, you’ve seen her now. Why not ask her out to dinner tonight and talk face-to-face?"
Yuri Sinclair shook his head.
Miles Sinclair frowned. What he hated most was this indecisive side of his brother.
—
Back in their room, Mia Grant and Kian Keller watched a movie.
Neither of them mentioned Yuri Sinclair the entire time.
The night was quiet.
After the movie ended, Mia Grant noticed a missed call on her phone.
It was from an unknown number.
She had missed it, and instead of calling again, the person had sent her a text message.
It stated their name and a location.
It was a very concise message, which gave a sense of the sender’s personality.
Nestled in Kian Keller’s arms, Mia Grant slowly looked up. "Who is Miles Sinclair?"
"Yuri Sinclair’s younger brother."
"Oh." Mia Grant remembered. "The donor the old man targeted at the beginning?"
"Yes." Kian Keller lowered his gaze, which landed right on her phone.
The next second, he reached out, turned off her phone, and tossed it aside.
Mia Grant blinked, then hesitated for a moment before asking, "So, was he the younger man sitting across from Yuri Sinclair just now?"
"Yes."
"He looked really young, too."
Kian Keller’s gaze returned to her face. "Do you want to go see him?"
Her thoughts exposed, Mia Grant scratched her head in embarrassment. "I’m just curious, really."
"I don’t really think them showing up here was a pure coincidence. But even after we met, Yuri Sinclair didn’t seem eager or enthusiastic to see me... and now his brother is contacting me. I really want to know what their objective is."
"Is it to acknowledge me? Or are they trying to test something?"
"How about..." Mia Grant blinked. "You come with me?"
She had learned her lesson; it was a little too dangerous to go alone in a situation like this.
But bringing Kian Keller along was a different story.
The man looked down at her and asked a very serious question, "What do you *hope* their objective is?"
The body in his arms stiffened slightly.
A moment later, she sat up straight, scooted over a bit to face him, and adopted the posture of someone ready for a serious discussion.
"For me, right now, I don’t really need a family anymore. I’m worried the same kinds of problems I had with the Grant Family will just happen all over again."
"But... Carla Sinclair was so good to me."
"Honestly, even with a blood connection, people’s feelings can be fragile. But she still stood by my side, even when things were so uncertain."
"And because of that, there’s a tiny part of me that feels a little... hopeful?"
"But I’m a complete stranger to the rest of the Sinclair Family. The only information I have comes from negative public rumors."
"But Carla Sinclair seems to want me to go back to them. Doesn’t that suggest that those rumors might not be true?"
She was hopeful, but also worried.
After they looked at each other in silence, Kian Keller took her hand. "Let’s go meet him."
"Even if that family isn’t what you imagine, you still have a way out."
"If you like them, you can stay. If you don’t, I’ll take you away."
