Chapter 13
Chapter 13
I stared at Xavier, then glanced at the butler, my mind racing.
"This is too much," I muttered, running a hand through my hair. "I can't process all of this in one night."
The butler folded his arms, turning to Xavier. "Do you really trust her?" he asked. "She was with Michael for years."
Xavier's gaze didn't falter. "Rachel stood by me when Maria and Gerald came over earlier. She has her own reasons for hating Michael and his family."
I lifted my chin. "You don't have to worry about me keeping your secret," I said. "I will."
Silence lingered between us.
Finally, I let out a tired sigh. "Look, I've had a long night. I just need some sleep. Tomorrow's going to be even longer."
Xavier exchanged a glance with the butler before nodding. "Alright. Get some rest."
With that, they left, and I collapsed onto the bed. Sleep came instantly.
The next morning, my alarm blared, dragging me out of a deep sleep. I groaned and turned over—only to find Xavier lying next to me, watching me with an amused smirk.
"Good morning, wife," he said smoothly, leaning in to press a playful kiss to my cheek.
I pushed him away, blinking in disbelief. "It feels like I had the craziest dream," I mumbled. "I saw you walking and talking like a normal person."
Xavier chuckled. "It wasn't a dream," he said. "You'd better get used to it."
I shook my head as I climbed out of bed. "I don't think I ever will."
After a long shower, I slipped into a sleek black dress and heels.
I had work to do. Today, I was officially stepping into my role as heiress.
Xavier watched me as I got ready, his eyes lingering.
"Try not to miss me too much," he teased.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed my bag. "Don't get caught walking around, husband."
His laughter followed me out the door.
At the office, my grandparents were already waiting for me.
"You're finally here," Grandpa said as I walked into the conference room. "Ready to go?"
I nodded. "Let's do this."
The board of directors sat around the long table, their eyes studying me curiously.
Grandma placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder before turning to address them.
