I Raised My Husband's Love Child...Then He Shot Me

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Rachel's POV

"Goodbye, Susan," I said, my voice flat as I turned to leave.

But she didn't move. I was already getting irritated. I'd just gotten a text that my flight had been rescheduled—I couldn't afford to miss it again. I was desperate to get away from all of them. So why was she pushing my buttons like this?

"What do you want?" I demanded.

Susan's smirk only grew. "I want to see you cry."

I scoffed. "Too bad. That's not happening."

I yanked my box away, but Susan threw a couple of bills at me.

"Here, use this for your fare," she giggled.

I snapped. Without thinking, I slapped her hard across the face.

"How dare you?" I hissed.

Susan screamed, and before I knew it, Micheal and Ivan came rushing into the room.

"What did you do, Rachel?" Micheal shouted when he saw Susan's red, swollen cheek.

I glared at him. "What did I do? You heard her scream and came running. Where were you when your son shot me? Where were you when I passed out from blood loss?"

"Bad woman!" Ivan wailed, pointing at me. "She hurt Aunty Susan."

"It's not her fault, Ivan. I tried to beg her to stay. I offered her money, but she slapped me," Susan whined, playing the victim with all the flair she could muster.

"Cut the crap, Susan!" I snapped. "Stop pretending you're the victim!"

"No, you stop, Rachel!" Micheal thundered. "I've been patient with you for too long. I'll take you back, but only if you apologize to Susan."

I stared at him, incredulous, before bursting into laughter. "Even if you were the last man on earth, Micheal, I would never come back to you."

"What is that supposed to mean? How dare you say that?" Micheal roared.

"For eight years, you never wanted a child. Then today, on the same day your son shot me, I find out Susan's pregnant with your child!" I shot back, fury in my voice.

Micheal glanced at Susan quickly, almost like he was silently asking her why she'd told me.

"We'll talk about that later. Just come home, and we'll figure this out," he urged, trying to calm me down.

I scoffed, "In your dreams, Mister."

Without another word, I turned on my heel and walked away, ignoring his desperate pleas to stop.

A few minutes later, I arrived at the airport just in time for my rescheduled flight. As I was checked in and told to turn off my phone, it rang.

It was Micheal.

Reluctantly, I picked up.

"What now?" I snapped.

"I understand you're upset about Susan's pregnancy. Come home, give me a child, and I'll put your name in my will. You'll have a good life with your child," Micheal said, his voice cold but insistent.

I scoffed. "Go to hell, Micheal."

Before he could reply, I hung up and blocked his number.

The flight was long, and I dozed off halfway through. When I finally landed, I was relieved. The moment I stepped into the arrivals hall, I spotted a well-dressed man holding a placard that read, Rachel Blake.

I walked toward him, and he immediately recognized me.

"Miss Blake, I'm Tony. Your personal guard," he introduced himself.

I nodded. "Thank you."

He took my luggage and loaded it into the car, opening the back seat for me. I settled into the plush leather interior and soon, we were driving off.

We arrived at a large mansion—the Blake family estate. This was my grandparents' home, John and Linda Blake, the owners of the biggest company in San Francisco. And I, their sole heir, had just stepped into a whole new world.

Three years ago, my grandparents reached out to me. They were my mother's parents—she had eloped with my father, abandoning her family. But when my mother was dying from cancer, she'd contacted them and told them about me. After their invitation, I'd rejected it, still holding onto my foolish love for Micheal.

But today, things were different.

"Rachel! Welcome home!" My grandmother's voice rang out as she and my grandfather came out to greet me with warm, loving arms.

"We're so glad you're here," they said, enveloping me in a hug.

I smiled. "Thank you for accepting me."

Grandma smiled warmly. "Nonsense, Rachel, everything here is yours now."

Grandpa nodded. "Yes, Rachel. You're now the new heiress of the Blake Empire."

I smiled.

Because now, it was time for payback.
