I Walked Away With His Love Child

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

I was confused, why was he reacting like this?

Isn't it normal to delete your ex's number after a breakup?

Especially when you've got someone jealous waiting at home. If he found out I still had my ex's contact, he'd probably flip.

"You're the one who said you didn't want me showing up again after we broke up," I said, my voice even.

Gideon's expression went cold. It looked like he wanted to say something, but stopped himself.

"I don't need your breakup compensation," I added quietly.

That seemed to hit a nerve. His face darkened, and his voice turned sharp.

"Drop the act. If your life weren't such a mess right now, you wouldn't even be talking to me."

Fiona was quick to jump in, her voice soft and sweet, trying to smooth things over.

"She did graduate from a top university. With how pitiful she is now, let's just consider it charity."

Someone nearby laughed. "Fiona, you're too kind. Why even waste your breath on someone like her? Just tell her to get lost."

The mockery in his tone was unmistakable, like he'd forgotten who he used to be.

Ten years ago, Gideon was worse off than I am now.

Back then, his family didn't approve of Fiona. They saw right through her, an ambitious girl who liked shortcuts.

The first time I saw Gideon was in college. He had just picked Fiona up from a club after being forced by his family to break up with her.

He was at rock bottom, and I was the one who stood by him.

He loved photography, so I used my startup savings to buy him expensive gear.

Through brutal winters and sweltering summers, I carried dozens of pounds of equipment on my shoulders, just to capture a glimpse of his genuine smile.

And who confessed first?

Gideon did.

I knew about his past with Fiona. I'd caught him more than once staring at old photos of them, completely lost in thought.

So when he told me he liked me, I asked him seriously:

"Have you really moved on from Fiona?"

He held me tightly, his voice steady.

"I never loved her. I just thought of her as a friend. It's you I love, Adeline. I want to be with you."

We were together for seven years.

Even his friends were shocked.

"Didn't he use to be obsessed with Fiona? I didn't think you two would last."

But they didn't know the whole story.

He dodged every conversation about marriage.

"Adeline, I don't believe in marriage. Can't we just stay like this forever?"

It wasn't until his parents started putting pressure on him that he finally agreed to tie the knot.

We got married, went on our honeymoon…

And then the news hit, Fiona had been in a car accident.

Gideon jumped off the cruise ship without a word, leaving behind a single note.

It was soaked in blood and filled with love, not for me, but for her.

"Fiona, you're the only one I'll ever love. I'm coming for you."

Not one word for me.

My love for him died that day.

So, when I got a second chance, when he asked to break up, I didn't fight it.

Because I knew nothing I said would change anything.

I watched him walk back to her, hand in hand, and I let them go.

I deleted everything, his number, his photos, thinking we'd never cross paths again.

But life had other plans. I never imagined we'd run into each other here, of all places.
