Chapter 38 Put Fear Into Gracelyn
Chapter 38 Put Fear Into Gracelyn
Allyson thought Gracelyn was just an administrative worker who didn't know much about computers, so she made things difficult for Gracelyn.
Allyson intended to put fear into Gracelyn, though Gracelyn was a new hire in the sales department.
Gracelyn smiled, "Got it. If I do it myself, you won't accuse me of damaging the company's property, will you?"
Allyson said with a sneer, "No, only if you can fix it."
Gracelyn nodded and went back to fix the computer.
Gracelyn's calmness troubled Allyson and made her wonder, "Is she a bimbo who knows a lot about computers?"
Allyson had no idea that Gracelyn had applied for a position in the engineering department, but the interviewer took a fancy to her image and put her on the fast track to the administration.
While Allyson watched Gracelyn with astonishment, Gracelyn moved the broken computer from the back, skillfully took out its graphics card, and put the card into her computer.
As expected, the picture on her computer was clear now.
Allyson realized that she had underestimated Gracelyn.
Then Gracelyn asked, "Ms. Juarez, so what do I do next?"
Allyson didn't like her from the beginning, and her brilliant work made Allyson feel worse.
Allyson randomly picked up a stack of documents and shoved it to Gracelyn. "The company plans to launch a project. Write a complete product report based on all this."
"OK."
"You seem too eager to get started. You'll have a week to finish it. Mind you, if you can't finish it on time, or get it wrong, you know what loss the company will suffer, right?"
Gracelyn started to read the files on her table. Of course, she knew a tiny bit of bad data would lead to the development direction of the project deviating from the market demand, resulting in unpopular products and even unsuccessful listing. That would deal a huge financial blow to the company.
Gracelyn had a quick flip through the files and said with a nod, "Got it."
Allyson stared at her calm face and felt defeated. Then she left in anger.
In fact, the sales department was not all about sales. They were engaged in other things like operations. The company did software, hardware, and also video games.
Maple Technology Company started out making games and added software and hardware development two years ago.
So at first, a large part of the sales department's work came from product operation. After the addition of these two businesses, the C-Suite simply put more responsibility on the sales department.
What Allyson told Gracelyn to do was a typical ops job.
Allyson was too hard on her. Gracelyn didn't even have the time to get familiar with her work and the products.
If Gracelyn made any mistakes, she could not only be fired but could even face a lawsuit if the company suffered great losses.
Although her report would be reviewed, if Allyson intended to screw Gracelyn, Gracelyn would be finished.
Gracelyn took a deep breath and thought, "Looks like Marina is right about Allyson. Allyson wants more than kick me out."
Gracelyn calmed down and read the files carefully.
Then she looked around. There were about eight people in the office. She picked a female colleague and came over with the files.
"Ms., may I have a minute of your time?" Gracelyn said.
The female colleague was chatting with someone on the computer. Gracelyn spooked her, and she closed the Line window and turned to look at Gracelyn. "What the heck! What did you say?"
"Sorry for interrupting. I'm new here, and my name is Gracelyn Beck. Ms. Juarez just assigned me a job. Can I ask you a few questions?"
Gracelyn took a glance at her work tag. It read, "Doris Cooper."
Doris seized her up and glanced at the files in her hands. "Go on."
"It's about these files. Are you familiar with them?"
Doris took them and took a look. "Well, I've heard about it. The company plans to make a simulation game, but the previous proposals were denied, so we need a new one.
"I thought another colleague was responsible for it."
"Ms. Juarez left the job to me," Gracelyn said with a smile.
Doris said, "Oh, then what else do you want to know?"
"I want to know more about the previous proposals, the risk assessment, and market research in particular stated in the files. Is the data here accurate?"
Doris was nice and explained to her patiently.
But at last, Doris handed a few more files and said, "I'm not sure about the data. If you're not sure, you can do some research yourself. Since you're doing this, you can help me do my research too!"
Gracelyn didn't know what to say.
She pursed her lips and regretted asking Doris.
"I'm new here. I need time to..."
Before Gracelyn could finish her sentence, Doris's phone rang. Doris raised her hand to stop her.
"Hello, babe. Tonight? I think I have time. Can you pick me up..."
On the phone, Doris put her files in Gracelyn's hands and waved goodbye to Gracelyn.
Gracelyn let out a sigh and left with more files.
Doris needed data on online mobile games, while Gracelyn was looking for something about console games. Gracelyn took a look at the files from Doris and put them aside.
It wasn't an easy favor. It was better to leave it aside.
Gracelyn knew nothing about operations. She read the files time and time again and was stuck.
It was time to get off work. She put them into her bag and planned to figure them out at home.
Gracelyn came to Jovanny's company and texted him. "I'm waiting for you downstairs at the usual spot."
Ten minutes later, Jovanny came downstairs. He was wearing a white shirt, with a coat on his arm.
Against the afterglow of the sunset, Jovanny walked to her like a figure stepping out of a painting.
This scene put Gracelyn in a trance. She didn't remember what Marina had told her until Jovanny was right in front of her.
Gracelyn wondered, "Is Jovanny really gay?"
"What is this?" Jovanny noticed the stuff in the back of the electric bike. He had no place to sit.
Gracelyn picked it up and tucked it under her arm. "Oh, just files from the company. Come and sit."
Seeing her juggle awkwardly the bike and the files, Jovanny said, "Let me help you."
"Thank you." Gracelyn then passed the files to him.
Jovanny put on his helmet and sat on the bike. The files spread out, and he saw a few words: "Product Proposal".
He frowned and asked, "I thought you work in administration. Why this product proposal?"
"It's a long story. We have to start with the attendance check that day..."
On the way home, Gracelyn told him everything including how Allyson took it personally.
When Gracelyn was done, they got home.
She said with a sigh, "She's a manager! How could she be so petty that she moved me to her department?
"But if I can cope with her, I'll learn more. You never know."
