Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The water pipe inside had burst, and water covered the floor.
I took off my shoes and went in, finding that it was just a loose connection.
I tightened it with a few turns of a wrench and it was quickly fixed.
"The waterproofing in this complex is quite good. You don't need to worry about it leaking to the floor below. Just clean up the standing water and it'll be fine," I advised.
After giving these instructions, I stood up, ready to leave.
But after just a couple of steps, a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around my waist.
Rosalie was sobbing behind me.
"Felix, you still care about me, don't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't have come."
"I'm sorry, I was wrong before. I know I made a mistake now. Can we go back to how we were before?"
I was stunned for a moment.
I pulled her hands away.
"You misunderstood. I'm not here as a volunteer. The repair fee is $100."
"Do you want to pay by PayPal or Venmo?"
After receiving Rosalie's transfer, I didn't stay any longer. Ignoring the rest of what she was saying, I left the complex directly.
When I saw her red, tear-stained eyes and felt nothing but calmness inside, I knew I had truly let go.
However, I soon realized that she had let go too.
A month after the project went live, I received a lawsuit notice from her company.
The lawsuit claimed that I had stolen confidential documents from the company.
The evidence was quite complete.
In addition to paper evidence and some transfer records, there was also a video, which was recorded on the day I fixed the water pipe for Rosalie.
It had been edited, showing only my action of looking for tools in the room.
Rosalie had taken it out of context, saying that I was looking for confidential documents at that time.
The video had been leaked online by someone and was spreading like wildfire. The project had originally been very popular, and many people who were already resentful took pleasure in spreading it further.
Some onlookers didn't know the details, but when someone doxed me and revealed that I had jumped ship from Rosalie's company to my friend's company, they believed the story about me stealing core secrets and joined in the mass criticism.
I was taken to the police station.
When I saw Rosalie, her eyes were evasive when she looked at me.
"You didn't break up with Tyler, did you?" I asked.
"The person who stole the secrets and almost bankrupted the company was actually Tyler. That day you lied about the broken water pipe, it was actually to make me a part of your plan."
I calmly stated my guesses.
I had noticed many unusual things at the time, but I didn't think too much about it. Now thinking back, everything was predictable.
Rosalie pursed her lips.
"I didn't want it to be like this either," she said.
"Tyler is still young, he has many opportunities ahead of him. We can't ruin his future because of one mistake."
"What about me?" I sneered. "I was with you for nine years, helped you so much, and you can ruin me with a clear conscience?"
"Rosalie, do you really not remember how I pulled you out of the gutter?"
Rosalie's body stiffened slightly, instinctively shrinking back a little.
I knew she still remembered.
