Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Over the past year, it had been nothing but Tyler—stealing my credit, getting me blamed for his screw-ups. Now, all of a sudden, he was the humble, responsible guy, and I was the childish, arrogant one?
I wasn’t even going to bother arguing. I turned around to leave.
“Wait, Felix,” Rosalie stopped me.
I braced myself for another lecture, expecting her to defend Tyler like she always did. But she surprised me. She pulled me aside.
“Felix,” she started, softening her tone, “I admit… I was too harsh on you today.”
“I’ve just got high expectations for you. That’s why I’m tough.”
Her words made me stop for a second. I was thrown off, not expecting this.
But then I figured it out. I knew exactly what she was doing.
Rosalie smiled like she was offering a peace treaty, giving me a little shoulder pat. “I’ll take back your resignation. Just come back to work, but... you need to apologize to Tyler in front of everyone.”
“And as for the accident? You’re responsible. I’ll deduct the compensation from your salary.”
I could feel my blood start to boil, but I just sneered, looking straight at Tyler. His smug face said it all. He knew exactly what was coming.
I couldn’t resist. “No thanks.”
“As for the rear-end collision, let’s check the surveillance footage. If that’s not enough, we can always involve the cops.”
“I’ve got things to do, so... I’m out.”
I turned and started walking, not giving her or anyone else a chance to respond.
Behind me, Rosalie’s voice was sharp with anger. “I gave you a chance. Don’t regret this!”
Regret? There was nothing to regret.
I slid into my car, heart pounding, and sent a text to my friend.
“I’ve resigned. I can start tomorrow.”
It didn’t take long for my phone to ring. My friend was practically bouncing with excitement. “Wait, really? You’re serious?”
There was a pause before he asked, “You sure you don’t want to talk it over with Rosalie?”
My friend and Rosalie had both started their businesses around the same time. But while she’d built hers from scratch, he had the resources, and a much better offer.
He needed talented people, and he’d offered me higher shares, better profits, and even a part-time position when he found out about my situation with Rosalie.
Back then, I’d refused without hesitation. For Rosalie, I’d sacrificed everything. When I was at my lowest, frozen in the snow, it was her who dragged me into a police station and saved my life.
I owed her. I’d given my all to her company, helped it grow from nothing.
But now? Now it was clear she didn’t care.
And after all these years, I’d repaid her kindness more than enough. I didn’t need to keep compromising myself.
