My Husband Chooses to Save His Lover's Daughter Instead

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Sherry, what the hell is going on with you? Why are you getting tangled up with someone like this? Don't say I didn't warn you, cut ties with her, now! She's nothing but trouble, and she'll use you the first chance she gets to get ahead!"

I didn't fully get what my friend was saying until I opened the file and saw the details. Tricia's husband was in prison for manslaughter. He killed her lover in a fit of rage when he caught them in the act. The file also listed every man Tricia had been with over the years, each one a success in their field, just like Miguel.

And Miguel? He had no clue.

I spent the whole day gathering evidence on his cheating. By the time night fell, I was back home, acting like everything was normal so I wouldn't raise any suspicions. Even after the lawyer sent me the divorce papers, Miguel still hadn't returned. The only message he left was a text:

"Honey, I have a medical conference out of town the day after tomorrow. I'm working late on a proposal tonight, so I'll sleep at the office. Don't wait up, just get some rest."

I decided to test him. I called him up.

"So, any updates on the kidney donor for our daughter? Isn't your hospital supposed to be the best in the country?"

In the past, he would've just told me to be patient. But this time, probably out of guilt, he stumbled over his words, rambling on and trying to justify the delays. I listened, a cold smile tugging at my lips, before I pretended to be helpless.

"Alright, then. Just make sure everything's in place as soon as a donor comes through. Our daughter's life depends on you, honey."

"Don't worry, I've got it under control," he reassured me.

The next day, he claimed he was too busy to come home. Later, he said he was finalizing the proposal and would check into a hotel in the other city for the night.

I knew exactly what was going on. This was his chance to take Tricia and her daughter on a little getaway.

But I wasn't sitting around either. I called a friend who worked at the prison to confirm when Tricia's husband was being released, then sent him the address of Miguel's hotel.

Every great drama needs its headliner, right?

Over the six years we were married, Miguel had been too busy spending my money to notice that the five-star hotel he was staying at was part of my property. As soon as he checked in, the front desk sent me the room number. They also mentioned that the medical conference was bringing in specialists from top hospitals across the country.

I told them to install a hidden camera in Tricia's room while she and her daughter went out for some "relaxation." After all, acts of using someone else's money to save another's child deserved to be exposed, didn't they?

That night, Miguel sent me a string of excited texts, pretending to be the dedicated father.

"Honey, there's hope for our daughter! One of the experts at the conference specializes in her condition. I'll talk to him over dinner tonight!"

"I might have a drink, so I won't be able to reply to your messages right away."

Using our daughter as an excuse for his affair, sickening.

I scoffed and ignored him, pressing down on the gas pedal as I sped through the night. I could tell he must've heard the engine because he called me right then.

"Honey, are you not at home? I hear a car engine. Where are you this late?" he asked, confused.

I laughed lightly, trying not to sound suspicious. "I'm just picking up some documents from the office. What else would I be doing? Cheating on you? Look how nervous you are!"

He awkwardly laughed it off and dropped the subject. In the background, I could hear the shower turn off, and Miguel quickly ended the call.

By the time I arrived at the hotel, it was already morning. I checked in quickly, then made my way to my room to wait for his conference to end.

The hidden camera in Tricia's room was linked to my phone. Just five minutes after the conference wrapped up, Miguel rushed straight into her room.
