Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The organizers of the medical seminar burst into the room, only to be met with a scene that made their faces darken with regret and disgust.
"Dr. Richardson, I don't think there's any need for you to continue attending this seminar," one of them said icily. "In fact, your hospital can save itself the trouble of sending representatives in the future."
Miguel panicked. "It's not what it looks like! I was just discussing tomorrow's surgery with the patient's family. That's all! I happened to come here after a shower, nothing else happened!"
What he still didn't realize was that his three-minute disgrace had already been live-streamed. Yet, he kept treating everyone like fools.
The organizers didn't even bother acknowledging him. With a scoff, they turned and walked away.
Ignoring the mess in the room, Miguel grabbed his phone, desperately trying to call the hospital president to explain. But the patient's family wasn't about to let him off so easily.
Brandon, attempting to pull Tricia and their daughter away, watched as the enraged family stormed toward Miguel, fists flying. A baseball bat cracked against his body with a sickening thud, and bright red paint was dumped over his head.
Miguel barely had time to react before the onlookers joined in. A tooth flew from his mouth as his face twisted in pain and fury. "What the hell are you doing?! Are you all insane? Do you even know who my wife is?! One word from me, and every single one of you will be jobless!"
"You think I won't call the cops?! Stop right now!" he bellowed, trying to intimidate them.
For a brief second, the crowd hesitated. Then someone spat, "You have a wife, and you still cheated? Scumbag!"
"A wolf in sheep's clothing! A damn hypocrite!" another voice echoed, before the beating resumed, this time, even more viciously.
Meanwhile, the livestream audience wasn't idle either. Furious comments flooded in, virtual gifts poured onto the screen, and demands for justice spread like wildfire.
I glanced at the hospital's official website on another phone. It was already a disaster zone. Without hesitation, I called my secretary.
"It's time. File the lawsuit. Demand the hospital return every penny of my investment from the past few years. And arrange for my daughter's surgery at a different hospital immediately."
By now, reporters had swarmed the hotel, filling every hallway and exit. On the livestream, Miguel lay beaten nearly unconscious, barely breathing, yet still clinging to his arrogance.
"You idiots think you can bring me down? Dream on! My wife won't let you get away with this! Even if the hospital goes bankrupt, they won't fire me!" he shouted, his swollen face contorted in rage.
In the chaos, Brandon took the opportunity to usher Tricia and their daughter out.
As he passed me in the hallway, our eyes met. He gave me a look of quiet gratitude.
Tricia, spotting me seated calmly outside, felt the last shred of hope die in her eyes. She knew, without me, Miguel was nothing. Without me, he had no power to save her daughter.
But I wasn't done yet.
I had already ordered a full breakdown of every expense Miguel had ever covered during her daughter's hospitalization. When we divorced, he'd have to pay me back. Every single cent. Along with everything I had ever invested in him during our marriage.
He was going to pay for it all.
Later, as my secretary arranged my daughter's transfer, she called me in frustration. "She won't stop crying. She keeps asking for her dad."
Through the phone, I could hear her sobbing, "Where's Daddy? I want Daddy! The new hospital doesn't have Daddy! I don't want to go!"
A sharp pang twisted in my chest. How was I supposed to explain her father's betrayal to her?
After a long silence, I finally spoke, my voice gentle. "Sweetheart, Daddy's hurt and won't be able to work for a while. Even if you stay, you wouldn't be able to see him. Be a good girl, okay? Let's go to another hospital and get you all better, so we can go home."
"Don't you want to stay with Mommy? Mommy misses you so much," I coaxed softly.
It took a long time, but eventually, her sobs quieted.
