No Love Blooms Where You Walk

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

She staggered a bit but quickly scrambled out of the danger zone. Emily was gasping for breath, still recovering from the shock. When she finally realized Alexander and I were standing just a few feet away, her eyes widened in disbelief. His gaze, full of fury, locked onto her. His anger was palpable, his veins popping as he glared at her. "Emily, you've been lying to me this whole time! Tell me, what's really going on?!"

Emily panicked, her eyes darting everywhere, and she rushed to explain, "Alex, I... I didn't mean to..." She looked desperate, her voice shaky. "I... I was scared, it was just a reflex. My leg healed a long time ago. I kept it from you because I was afraid you wouldn't want me and Tommy anymore."

But Alexander wouldn't listen. Without a word, he turned to leave. At that moment, someone from the car stepped out. It was Jack, a knowing smile playing on his lips as he strolled toward us. "I think Mr. Steele owes me a little thank-you. If it weren't for me, you'd still be in the dark."

Alexander's expression darkened, his jaw clenched, but he couldn't bring himself to speak. Jack continued, deliberately dragging out his words. "Since Emily is such a good liar, shouldn't Mr. Steele check the kid? Maybe..." He let his words hang in the air, casting a sly glance toward the bewildered Tommy.

At that, Emily's face drained of color. She swayed, looking as if she might collapse. She opened her mouth to defend herself but no words came out. Alexander stood frozen, as if struck by lightning, realization dawning on him.

I, too, was shaken. Was Jack implying Tommy might not be Alexander's child?

Without another word, Alexander grabbed Tommy's arm and stormed off. Emily stumbled after them, shouting, "Alex, don't believe what he says! Tommy is yours, you can't just distrust us because of someone else's words!"

Alexander ignored her, walking straight to a DNA testing center. When the results came back, it was confirmed: Tommy wasn't his son.

Back at the house, Alexander kicked open the door, his anger barely contained. Emily rushed out, but before she could speak, he slammed the test report in her face. Her skin turned as pale as a ghost. Her knees buckled, and she collapsed to the floor with a thud. Tears poured from her eyes as she clutched his legs.

"Alex, I was wrong. I was just scared of losing you, that's why I lied. Please forgive me, give me another chance."

But Alexander recoiled, disgust written all over his face as he shook off her hands. "Don't touch me! All these years, you've been playing me. I was blind!"

He pulled out his phone and called his assistant. "Get her out of here. Throw her on some island, I don't care."

For a man like Alexander, when he loves, he loves deeply. But when he hates, it's even stronger. His bodyguards quickly appeared, dragging Emily out as she struggled, her hands flailing, her nails scraping the doorframe as she cried and screamed.

"Alex, please! I was wrong, don't throw me out, please!" Her voice echoed in the empty house, but it didn't faze him.

After dealing with Emily, Alexander, filled with regret, came looking for me. I was in the flight club's lounge, absorbed in my flight materials. He stood in front of me, his voice slightly trembling. "Rachel, I was wrong. I've driven Emily away. She won't be a problem anymore."

His words were soft, but I felt no warmth. "It's too late for that, Alexander. What's between us can't be fixed with a few words."

I closed the materials and stood up, walking toward the flight area. He watched me, his lips moving, but no words came out.

When I landed the plane smoothly later, I saw Alexander standing on the tarmac, waiting. His face looked thinner, his hair tousled by the wind, his eyes full of mixed emotions. He approached me, forcing a smile. "Rachel, congratulations. You flew beautifully. You've fulfilled your dream."

I looked at him, my expression unchanged. "Thanks. But if you really care, you'll sign the divorce papers. It's time we put an end to this."

He was stunned, but nodded silently.

On the day of the divorce, he showed up late. As he handed me the papers, I noticed his hand was trembling. "Rachel, I hope you have a good life from now on."

I took the agreement, my eyes lingering on it for a moment before I turned around and walked into the sunlight, my steps firm. At that moment, all the chains that had bound me were finally broken.

(The End)
