Once Us, Now Dust

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Seeing the comments flooding in, I immediately called Christopher to confront him.

"Christopher, are you out of your mind?!"

He sighed heavily on the other end. "I told you, I'm not divorcing you."

"Sophia, isn't this what you wanted? To be known as the wife of an A-list actor? I'm giving you that title."

I scoffed, "Christopher, can you stop assuming you know what I want?"

"Then what do you want?"

I smiled coldly, "Believe whatever you want."

I hung up and immediately posted the divorce papers and court summons I'd prepared, commenting on his announcement:

"Either sign the papers or show up in court. No other options."

After hitting send, I powered off my phone, closed all the curtains in the villa, and settled in to wait for the court date to arrive.

That night, however, Christopher didn't stay away. He hired a locksmith, used his "husband" status, and came right back into my home.

He walked in, holding a bouquet of pink roses, and handed me a handmade dress.

"Sophia, happy 5th anniversary."

If Christopher hadn't reminded me, I would've forgotten today was our wedding anniversary.

In the past, I would've never let this day slip by without planning a surprise, months of preparation.

To keep things meaningful, I always made the gifts myself. A leather belt in the first year, a wallet in the second, a tie in the third, a dress shirt in the fourth.

But aside from using the belt and wallet for a couple of months, Christopher hadn't even glanced at the other gifts before tossing them aside.

What was it he had said back then?

Oh, right.

I picked up the dress and tossed it into the trash. "What an eyesore. Christopher, can you stop trying to offend me with this garbage?"

Christopher froze, staring at the pale purple fabric in the trash. His lips trembled.

"Sophia, you used to love the gifts I gave you."

I remembered one year when Christopher had surprised me with a necklace.

I wore it to a film awards ceremony, beaming with pride. But then I overheard Mia's cruel remarks:

"Sophia, that necklace looks so familiar. Oh, I remember now, it's identical to the one in my trash can!"

I don't think anyone could understand how humiliated I felt in that moment.

And when Christopher found out, he joined Mia in mocking me.

"Sophia, don't you know your own style? Even if I gave you a custom Bulgari piece, you'd just look like a pig wearing a pearl necklace."

The words "pig wearing a pearl necklace" hit me like a sharp, burning needle straight to the heart.

But I loved him so much back then. Even though I knew the necklace had been discarded by Mia, I still cherished it, because Christopher had given it to me.

But now, hearing his words again, I realized I deserved so much more.

"Christopher, you said it yourself, that was in the past.

"I was blind before. But now, I can see clearly."
