Pregnant... and So Is His Mistress!

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

His voice was hoarse, eyes wide with shock.

"When did this happen?"

Chloe, thinking we were just having another one of our usual arguments, rushed over to play peacemaker, flashing a fake smile.

"Come on, don't fight on my birthday. Everyone should be happy, right?"

She added with an overly sweet grin, "Sis, let me cut you a piece of cake!"

I took a step back, keeping my distance. My voice was ice-cold.

"No need. The only reason I showed up tonight is because Max promised me one wish if I came."

I pulled out the divorce papers and tossed them in Max's face.

"Sign these."

"That's my wish."

Max ripped the papers up without a second thought, his expression turning dark.

"Stop messing around, Karla."

"You think I'm going to believe you were pregnant just because of some random paper from the women's hospital?"

I shot him a bitter laugh. "Not pregnant. Already miscarried."

His voice cracked, rising in panic.

"Why?!"

"You think I got jealous because I've been busy taking care of Chloe, so I had an abortion?"

I laughed, the sound hollow. "I did plan on it, but before I could get to the hospital, I lost the baby."

His face went from confused to stunned as realization hit him. He froze.

"How... how is that possible?" he stammered. "I, I stopped the car in time. I didn't hit you!"

"Let's go to the hospital," he said, grabbing my hand, "The baby must still be fine!"

I yanked my hand away and pulled out the D&C procedure papers from my bag, throwing them in his face.

"Look at them closely. The baby's gone."

Max grabbed the papers, glancing at them quickly before asking in a hoarse voice, "When did you have the procedure?"

I sneered. "The night you brought Chloe to stay at our place."

Chloe's boyfriend suddenly jumped off the couch, fury in his eyes, and slapped her hard across the face.

"I told you to get more money out of him, not sleep with him and make a fool out of me!"

Chloe's cheek instantly swelled, and tears started streaming down her face. She tried to explain herself.

"I didn't! We didn't do anything! I just stayed over one night!"

But her boyfriend didn't buy it. He slapped her again, cursing, "You're lying to me! I've always known something was going on between you and this 'adopted brother' of yours!"

Chloe's friends stood there, frozen, no one daring to intervene.

Chloe, finally breaking, snapped.

"Fine! Yes, I did it. So what?"

She pointed a finger at Max. "You don't treat me right. So I found someone who does!"

"Max is a thousand times better than you!"

Max whipped around to shout at her.

"Shut up!"

Then he turned back to me, his voice now softer, but desperate.

"Karla, don't listen to her. It's all lies!"

"When you didn't come home that night, I was upset, but I didn't want to call you first. Chloe called me, and in the heat of the moment, I brought her home to make you jealous. I didn't mean for anything to happen, but she, "

I cut him off, my voice dripping with disdain.

"Enough, Max."

I glared at him, disgust evident in my eyes.

"You're no man. I despise you!"
