Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Olivia stepped into view, tears streaking down her face.
She didn't even confront him, just clung to his arm, whispering, "You've been ignoring me… Do you really not want me anymore? Did you mean any of that?"
Ethan froze, looking back and forth between us.
He mumbled weak denials, each colder than the last.
"Olivia, don't embarrass yourself. I'm a married man."
Compared to the things he used to scream at me, calling me ugly, useless, telling me to go die, this was nothing.
But Olivia? She broke.
Already unstable, her emotions spiraled fast. She grabbed a knife, pressing it to her wrist.
"Would you even care if I died?"
Ethan hesitated… then finally cracked.
"Fine," he muttered, jaw clenched. "I'll sign the papers. Just… let me take care of her tonight."
She was rushed to the hospital. Ethan followed the ambulance, still begging me to reconsider, to give him one more chance.
I didn't look back.
The divorce was finalized soon after.
At the courthouse, Ethan looked like hell. Tired. Thin. But still hesitating.
I didn't.
On the way out, he tried one last time.
"One last meal together?"
I didn't even respond.
He drove off in silence.
After the divorce, I focused on my career. Ethan faded into the background. Eventually, he even blocked me on everything.
I heard rumors that Olivia's condition worsened. For a while, Ethan stayed by her side, playing the role of a doting caretaker.
But soon, her illness turned into obsession.
She called me nonstop, demanding to know if Ethan was with me.
I told her no.
She cried, said he'd disappeared. That he'd blocked her too.
I thought maybe her mind was playing tricks on her.
Until I got a call from the hospital.
"Hi, are you Sophia White?"
I was about to hang up, thinking Ethan was pulling another stunt.
Then they said, "Do you know an Olivia Carter?"
Turned out, she'd been living in a cheap rental. Ethan had started visiting less and less, until he just stopped coming altogether.
She'd gone out to look for him during an episode… and walked into traffic.
By the time I got to the hospital, it was too late.
When I called Ethan, he refused to believe it.
"No. No way. That's impossible."
But he showed up, arm in arm with a new woman.
She looked eerily like a blend of me and Olivia.
She planned Olivia's funeral, all while holding tightly to Ethan's side like some twisted prize.
As I turned to leave, she stopped me.
"You're Ethan's ex-wife, right?"
She pulled out a bank card and pressed it into my hand.
"Take this. Just… please stop calling him at night."
I burst out laughing and handed the card back.
"I haven't called him since the divorce. Here, go through his call logs."
Her face went pale just as Ethan's name lit up my screen.
A message popped up:
I miss you so much. Seeing you today only made it worse.
I blocked him right in front of her.
She broke down crying.
I walked away without saying another word.
For the first time in forever, I didn't owe anyone anything.
I built a new life. One just for me.
Ethan ended up marrying that girl. But of course, history repeated itself.
His mother pulled the same manipulative tricks.
Only this time, the bride fought back.
She canceled the wedding last-minute and left Ethan stuck with a six-figure bill.
He spiraled again.
But he couldn't find me.
My parents and I had already moved to a coastal town, finally fulfilling my mom's dream of living by the sea.
Walking away from all that?
The best decision I ever made.
