The Betrayed Oath

Chapter 12

Chapter 12

"Do you think this will really end anything, Sophia?"

Elise's voice sliced through the tension in the air, cold and mocking. The moment I stepped into the room, everything I'd tried to suppress erupted into flames. She stood there, that same calculating look in her eyes. The woman who had twisted my world with lies, now waiting, her thin smile never wavering.

"You really think you can take me down?"

I could hear the challenge in her voice. Her gaze was heavy on me, and I swallowed hard, trying to steady my nerves. This wasn't just another conversation. This was the end of everything.Alex was behind me, silent but strong, his presence a shield I hadn't known I needed until now.But the air around us crackled with danger, and my heartbeat drummed in my ears, drowning out the logical thoughts in my head. Could I really do this? Could I really face her?

"Elise,"

I started, my voice stronger than I felt, "This ends now. You can't hide behind your games anymore."My hands trembled, but I clenched them into fists at my sides. This wasn't about me anymore, it was about everything she had destroyed. And Alex… Alex was here, beside me. He was all the strength I needed.

"You think you're some kind of hero?"

Elise laughed, the sound a jagged edge.

"This is far from over, Sophia. You're in deeper than you know."

Her words hit like a punch, and I staggered back, momentarily lost in her manipulation. But then I remembered: the truth. The USB. Alex's loyalty.I wasn't alone in this fight.

"We know everything, Elise,"

Alex finally spoke, his voice low but steady.

"And the game ends tonight."

His words hung in the air, like a final warning. I could feel Elise's eyes narrow, her smile slowly fading into a mask of pure venom.

"You have no idea what you're up against,"

she hissed, the tone dark and twisted. And that was when the tension broke. In an instant, Elise lunged. Everything happened so fast I barely had time to react.Alex was already moving, but Liam, Elise's right-hand man, was there too. The force of their bodies colliding sent a sharp scream from my lips.

"Alex!"

The sound of Alex grunting in pain was drowned by the sharp crack of fists meeting flesh. My heart pounded, a mix of fear and rage swelling inside me. This was the moment. It had to be.But as the fight raged on, something went wrong. Elise's hand reached out, a flash of metal gleaming in the dim light.

"No!"

My voice was a scream, but it was too late. The knife, sharp and merciless, found its mark.Alex staggered back, his hand pressing to his side as blood seeped between his fingers. The sight of him crumpling to the floor sent a cold wave crashing through me.

"Alex!"

I rushed to his side, the world spinning out of control. The fight continued around us, but I could barely focus on anything but his blood staining the floor beneath us.

"Sophia..."

Alex's voice was a hoarse whisper, but I could hear the weight of it in every word.

"Stay with me. Don't let her win..."

His hand brushed mine weakly, his eyes locking onto mine with that familiar intensity. But he was fading. Fast.I couldn't lose him, not like this. Not when everything was on the line.

"I'm here, Alex. I won't let her take you."

But even as I said the words, I knew the truth. Elise wasn't just trying to take him from me, she was trying to take everything.Panic threatened to take over, but I refused to let it. I wasn't going to lose him. Not after everything. I pressed my hand harder against his wound, doing my best to stop the bleeding, but nothing could stop the fear in my chest.

"You promised me you'd make it through this,"

I whispered, my voice breaking as I watched him struggle to stay conscious.

"I... I promised,"

Alex whispered back, his eyes fluttering closed.

"But you have to finish this, Sophia... stop her... for both of us."

His words cut deep, and with every passing second, it felt like the world was slipping away from me. Elise. Liam. They were still out there. They weren't going to let us go easily. The room felt like it was closing in on me, but I couldn't back down now. Not when I had a chance to end this.

"Alex, hold on. Please. Just hold on,"

I begged, but it was useless. His grip on my hand loosened, and my world started to crumble. And then, just as quickly, the door slammed open. More footsteps echoed, distant but growing louder. Was this it? Was this how everything ended? My vision blurred with tears as I fought to steady my breath, but in the chaos, a sudden realization hit me like a freight train: the game wasn't over. Not yet.Not by a long shot.

"Sophia, look out!"

The warning came too late.I turned, just in time to see Liam charging toward me, rage in his eyes. The last thing I remembered before everything went black was his face, twisted in fury, but something else there too. Something darker than I'd ever seen before. And then... silence.
