Chapter 15
Chapter 15
On the seventh day after my death, Ethan Winters held a funeral for me.
As my widower.
He divorced Lily Evans.
Before the divorce, Lily and Ethan had a violent argument.
That was when I learned the truth—everything I'd seen back then had been a lie.
He never loved Lily.
When he brought her to see me all those years ago, it had been an act, a performance meant for my eyes.
Lily had provoked me because she had fallen for Ethan and wanted to force me out of his life.
Later, when my parents died unexpectedly, Ethan tried to cut ties with her, but Lily refused. She even threatened to reveal the truth to me.
He didn't yield.
Frightened, Lily came to me, lying about being pregnant to make me leave him.
That night when he showed up drunk, he had actually come to reconcile.
But I shut him down with the words, I've found someone new.
He thought I had truly stopped loving him, that his actions had broken my heart beyond repair.
During that time, he drowned himself in alcohol, lost in misery.
Meanwhile, under Lily's manipulations, I flooded my social media with posts about my "new love."
"He came to pick me up in the rain."
"Valentine's Day in July—so beautiful."
"Even with schoolwork piling up, don't forget to go on dates!"
Back then, Ethan spent his days scrolling through my posts, drink in hand.
He wasted away, day after day.
But what he didn't know was—my posts were visible to him alone.
Every lie I crafted was a fantasy of us together.
My depression worsened during that time. I couldn't sleep at night.
In those sleepless hours, I imagined what it would be like if we had never broken up.
Would we have been wrapped up in sweet romance?
Would he have held my hand as we walked across campus?
Would he have come for me with an umbrella on rainy days?
Would he have bought me roses on Valentine's Day, taken me to dinner, watched movies with me?
Every beautiful thought I had was tied to him.
But he never knew.
Back then, he thought I was in love with someone else.
And I thought he was planning to marry Lily.
What a ridiculous story.
So absurd even I cringe at it.
But the most shocking revelation was the child in Lily's womb.
Ethan claimed it was ours.
How?
How could Lily be carrying our child?
During their argument, Lily kept repeating one word—
Truth.
What was the real reason Ethan and I broke up?
I wanted to know, yet I was afraid to find out.
In the end, Lily tried to use the child as leverage, but Ethan had her taken to the hospital.
The pregnancy was terminated. Lily lost her mind.
She was sent to a psychiatric facility. Ethan vowed she would never see the outside world again.
Watching her unravel, I felt nothing.
Much of the suffering between Ethan and me had been her doing.
This was her retribution.
