Chapter 28
Chapter 28
"Ethan Sullivan, we ended long ago." Sophia Williams' voice was icy.
Ethan's eyes were bloodshot, his fingers clutching her sleeve desperately. "Just once... forgive me just this once..."
Sophia suddenly laughed. The sound sent a chill down Ethan's spine.
"Fine, I forgive you," she said lightly. "As long as you can accept me seeing other men."
Ethan's pupils constricted.
"I'll send flirty texts in front of you." Sophia counted on her fingers. "I'll wear the pajamas you gave me to meet him."
"Who knows..." She leaned in, her breath brushing his ear. "Maybe I'm already carrying his child."
Ethan staggered back, his face ashen.
"Can't handle it?" Sophia sneered. "Then why should I forgive you?"
She shook off his grip. "Love goes both ways. If you can't give loyalty, don't expect my love."
Ethan collapsed to his knees, tears streaming down his face.
"Sign the divorce papers." Sophia picked up her bag. "Don't make me lose respect for you."
As the door closed behind her, heart-wrenching sobs echoed through the room. Sophia didn't pause, striding forward into her new life.
A month later, Emily Johnson's unexpected visit shattered the calm.
"Miss Williams," the businesswoman said, uncharacteristically hesitant. "Would you come with me somewhere?"
The attic of Alexander Johnson's villa held a shocking secret.
When the coded lock clicked open, Sophia's breath caught. The walls were covered in photographs—every moment of her life over the past decade, some she had even forgotten.
"This is..." Her hands trembled as she flipped open a yellowed notebook.
It was her college travel journal. Every page was worn from repeated handling, the margins filled with Alexander's notes:
"The sea breeze in City A is gentle, but don’t forget a jacket."
"Cherry blossoms peak around March 15—book early."
"The best fruit wine is at the shop at the end of the alley."
On the last page, bold ink strokes pierced through the paper:
"Youth shouldn’t meet someone who dazzles too brightly—or the rest of life will always feel like settling."
"And I refuse to settle."
Emily handed her another book. The embossed gold letters—Operation Homewrecker—made Sophia's legs weaken.
The first page read:
"Step One: Wait for her divorce."
