Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Alexander beamed as he held a press conference, announcing the good news to the public. Then, he couldn't resist flaunting their love on social media.
Alexander: "After all the twists and turns, it's still you."
Evelyn: "After all the searching, you're still the one."
Their former classmates rushed to offer their congratulations:
"True love always finds a way. Congratulations!"
"From school uniforms to wedding gowns, I believe in love again!"
But then, Dr. James's comment seemed totally out of place: "Have you found the living Lily?"
Alexander didn't miss a beat, he replied to the comment and pinned it: "How could I find her if Dr. Yu insists on keeping her as his mistress?"
The meaning behind his words was crystal clear, and soon, countless netizens flooded the comment section with insults and rebukes.
But that wasn't enough. The gossip mill kept turning. People began dredging up rumors about my past wilderness expeditions.
"I heard that relationships in wilderness exploration teams are all messed up! Could it be that she slept her way to become the team leader?"
"No wonder she seduced Mr. Frost back then! Looks like she really had a lot of experience!"
Some people even went as far as using AI technology to create deepfake videos of me, spreading fake footage everywhere.
The insults and hateful words online were overwhelming, and the pain it caused me was unbearable. But what about Alexander?
Instead of stopping it, he actually encouraged it. He liked the rumors, stared at his phone with a smug grin, and said, "Lily, let's see how long you can stay hidden before you're forced to come out."
I screamed in agony, but my voice was drowned out by the weight of it all. I could only watch helplessly as my hand passed through Alexander's face, unable to reach him.
The night of Alexander and Evelyn's engagement party arrived, held at the most luxurious hotel in the city. But there was no joy to be found on the faces of Alexander's parents.
They had once vehemently opposed my marriage to Alexander. During those years of trying to conceive, I'd protected his pride by never telling him about his condition. But eventually, the pressure was too much, and I had to tell his parents. After that, their attitude toward me changed.
Especially after I got pregnant with twins, they treated me like their own daughter.
"Alexander, I don't care how many women you marry! You have to find Lily and bring her back! The child in her womb is the only heir to the Frost family!" Mr. Frost Senior shouted, his tone stern.
"Don't worry," Alexander replied, his confidence unwavering. He glanced toward the entrance of the hotel. "She'll be here today."
I felt trapped around Alexander, unable to make sense of whatever game he was playing this time. That was until Dr. James walked in. Alexander immediately stood up, eager to greet him, but his face fell when he saw the empty space beside him.
His confidence cracked. He quickly called over a few bodyguards and stepped out onto the hotel balcony, whispering orders.
"Go search Dr. Yu's car. If you find even a single strand of Lily's hair, report back to me."
Alexander lit a cigarette, inhaling deeply, but immediately started coughing, the smoke choking him. The bodyguards returned quickly.
"Mr. Frost, we couldn't find anything. Not a single strand of Mrs. Frost's hair."
"Damn it! Where the hell is she?" Alexander's face twisted with rage as he slapped the hotel railing, hard.
The bodyguard hesitated for a moment, but didn't speak.
By the time they returned to the banquet hall, most of the guests had already left. Dr. James, fuming, stormed over and grabbed Alexander by the collar.
"Did you vandalize my car?!"
Alexander's eyes flickered nervously, but he still managed to shout back, "If you know what's good for you, you'll hand Lily over. Next time, it won't just be your car I smash!"
Dr. James's voice was ice cold. "Alexander, how long are you going to keep deceiving yourself?"
