Chapter 9
Chapter 9
When Alexander found the answer, he was stunned into silence. Still in disbelief, he continued flipping through page after page until he suddenly howled like a madman.
"I didn't know! I really didn't know! I thought pregnant women only gave birth on their due date! No one ever told me she could go into labor early!"
He immediately called Dr. James again, his tone unusually soft.
"As long as you bring Lily back to me, I'll agree to any conditions for future cooperation!"
Dr. James's voice on the other end was filled with cursing and mockery. "Cooperation? Who wants to cooperate with a murderer? Oh, by the way, your new wife had six abortions before marrying you. It's all over the trending news. Check your phone."
Alexander stood frozen for a moment, lost in thought.
At that moment, Evelyn rushed in.
"Brother Alex, someone's spreading rumors about me online! You've got to pay to suppress it!"
Alexander frowned as he opened the trending topics. Nearly every young heir in Group A had come forward with real-name evidence, claiming Evelyn had aborted their children while dating Alexander. Some of them were his so-called "brothers."
Staring at the trending posts, Alexander asked, "So you can't have children because of those six abortions?"
Evelyn's face drained of color, and her voice became shrill, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "You believe them, not me?! Is this what you call loving me?!"
Alexander suddenly let out a bitter laugh.
"You've always had poor health, and I suggested taking you to the hospital, but you refused. What you didn't know is that besides reading medical reports, Dr. James also understands traditional Chinese pulse diagnosis. He warned me long ago that something was wrong with you! But I chose to believe you over him!"
After saying this, he called someone to lock Evelyn away.
With a quiet gaze, Alexander stared at my body, carefully wiping the blood from my face with a clean handkerchief. He whispered my name over and over.
But no one answered.
Finally, Alexander couldn't hold back the sorrow in his eyes. He collapsed to his knees, covering his face in anguish.
"Lily is really gone…"
"I killed her…"
"I'll pay for this with my life… Lily… wait for me…"
As I watched, resentment surged within me. How could he repay my life and the lives of our children? Three lives in total… how could he ever make up for that?
My bitterness grew stronger, and I could feel my soul regaining strength. With all my energy, I moved an old guitar and smashed it towards Alexander.
He was knocked to the ground, but quickly got up, his face lighting up. "Lily! You're back, aren't you?!"
I didn't have time for his words. I just lifted the guitar again, smashing him with it until his head was bloodied.
Alexander knelt upright, as if cooperating with my attacks. His face was covered in blood, looking completely mad. Finally, his body trembled, and for a long time, he lowered his head in defeat.
A week later, Evelyn and Alexander, who had been trending and publicly condemned, disappeared. Many people speculated they had fled the country after committing a crime.
The truth was, Alexander had sent Evelyn to Northern Myanmar. As for himself, he set out on the same exploration path he had once taken, carrying my lifeless body.
When he reached the foot of the mountain, staff members stopped him.
"The mountain's closed due to heavy snow. There's a risk of an avalanche at any moment."
Just like that night when Alexander, feverish, was stopped from searching for me alone, he now chose to sneak up the mountain on his own, avoiding everyone.
It was the same dilapidated wooden cabin, the wind and snow nearly freezing him to death.
"Lily, I've come to get you," he whispered.
Facing the endless white expanse ahead, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
The heavy snow buried the cabin completely, piling up into a mountain of snow. From a distance, it looked like Alexander's grave.
