Back to the Day of the Plane Crash, I Have My Fiancée Save Her True Love First

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

I pulled into the driveway, the evening air cool against my skin. When I walked through the door, I found my parents sitting on opposite ends of the couch, the tension in the room thick enough to cut with a knife. They weren't saying a word, but I could feel the weight of their expectations pressing down on me.

Before I even reached the couch, my dad shot up from his seat, his face turning red with frustration.

"You're an adult now, Bruce! How are you still this reckless?" he barked, pacing the floor. "Do you know how many business dinners I had to cancel just to wait for you today?"

"And when did you start flying a plane? How come I didn't know about that?" His voice rose with every word, his fists pounding on the table.

"Alex Johnson was questioning you at the police station, and you threatened him? Where's the composure, the maturity of a man who's supposed to take over this company?" His finger jabbed in my direction as he continued to rant.

I could feel the heat rising in the room, but just as he was about to escalate, my mom suddenly grabbed a vase from the table and threw it at him.

"Aron! What the hell are you doing?" she yelled, her face twisted in anger.

"Don't you dare blame Bruce! Have you forgotten the original agreement?"

My dad's eyes flickered to the vase shattered on the floor, his rage shifting toward her.

"Did I break the agreement? I left Bruce most of the property, didn't I? And you—"

That was enough. I couldn't take it anymore. I raised my voice to cut through the chaos.

"Enough! Stop fighting!"

"If you want to argue, take it outside!" I snapped, my patience running thin.

For a moment, silence hung in the air, thick with tension. Then they both sat back down, the argument hanging in the air like smoke that wouldn't clear.

I plopped down on the other end of the couch and, without wasting any time, said the words I knew would shake them.

"I'm canceling the marriage contract with Lily."

"No," my dad shot back instantly, his voice hard. "That contract was made when you were a child. You can't just toss it aside over something so trivial. I don't agree."

My mom, her face flushing with anger, didn't hold back. "You're just trying to marry Bruce off to Lily, take our property, and let your illegitimate child take over. Don't think I don't see what's going on here!"

Her words cut through the air like a knife. She knew everything. My heart sank.

Why, then, was she pushing me to marry Lily? Why had she refused my divorce before?

She looked away, uncomfortably, avoiding my gaze. "Who you marry is up to you. But Lily... she's capable. She can help manage the company. If you find someone better, I'll support you in breaking the engagement."

Her words hit me harder than I expected. It wasn't love. It was business. It always had been.

I stood up, the weight of the conversation heavy in the room.

"If I don't cancel this engagement with the Taylor family, then I'll fulfill the contract with Samantha," I said firmly.

My dad opened his mouth to argue, but when he saw the look on my mom's face, he quieted. He knew better than to push.

The next morning, I woke to the sight of my mom's car parked in the driveway. As soon as I stepped outside, she gestured for me to get in, her face unreadable as always.

"Let's go. I'll take you to the Taylor family."

We drove straight to the Taylor house, where Alex Johnson was already waiting for us.

As soon as my mom and I walked in, he wrapped his arm around Lily's waist, giving my mom that smug, self-satisfied look he always had.

My mom didn't even flinch. She just sneered at him and cut straight to the point.

Grandma Taylor liked me, but the family's real power rested with Lily's mother, an older woman who had little influence now. Especially Lily, who immediately grabbed my hand upon hearing my words.

"Let's go," she said, tugging me toward the door. "I'll take you to the Taylor family."

The drive was quick, and by the time we got to the Taylor house, Alex had beaten us there.

As soon as we entered, Alex had his arm around Lily's waist again, looking way too proud of himself.

My mom gave him a quick, dismissive glance before stating the reason we were there.

Grandma Taylor liked me, but like Grandma Taylor, the family was now controlled by Lily's mother, who wasn't as sharp as she used to be. And Lily, of course, grabbed my hand the second she heard what I said.

"You're really trying to break off the engagement with the Taylor family?" she demanded.

I pulled my hand back and was about to respond when Samantha Taylor appeared at the top of the stairs. She walked down, took my hand, and said, "Not with the Taylor family. With you. He's my fiancé now."
