Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Valentin took the cup of water on the table and drank it all. "Joshua, Anika is dead. Just let it go."
When he finished, he realized that he was speaking up for Anika.
Joshua didn't find anything strange with Valentin and continued to read the medical records.
When he was about to finish reading, he received a call.
Joshua took it. It was from Payton. "Mr. Conan, I found where Trent went."
Then, he sent Joshua the address.
Joshua took a look. It was a remote county called Eldol.
This name was familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had heard of it.
"What's wrong?" Seeing Joshua in silence, Valentin asked.
Joshua got up. "I have to go. Call me if anything happens."
After that, he said nothing more and took his coat to leave.
Valentin wanted to ask where Joshua was going when he saw him leaving in a hurry.
He was the only one in the room.
It was too late and Valentin didn't have a good rest, so he slept here.

In the early morning, Joshua arrived in Eldol.
The sky was overcast, and the rain grew heavier.
Payton held a big black umbrella for Joshua as Joshua got out of the car.
"Mr. Conan."
"Hmm."
Payton led Joshua to the countryside of the county as he talked to him.
"We found out that this county is on Trent's itinerary, and after an investigation, we learned that Anika's foster mother lives here."
Foster mother...
In the heavy rain, Joshua's eyes turned gloomy. He remembered why the name of this county was so familiar to him.
Anika mentioned it more than once!
In their three years of marriage when any festival came, Anika would nervously ask him, "Joshua, I have things to do and I want to go to Eldol, can I?"
Back then, Joshua didn't care where Anika would go and didn't ask what she would do in Eldol.
He would always speak with coldness. "You can go anywhere you want without reporting it to me."
Though this was his final reply, Anika would tell him where she would go every time she took a trip.
Anika stayed indoors a lot, and Eldol was the destination of most of her trips.
Finally, they arrived at a dilapidated brick house.
"Here we are." Payton stepped forward and took a look. The door was locked. "What's going on?"
He turned his head to look at Joshua.
After receiving Joshua's consent, the bodyguards broke the door.
"Wait outside," said Joshua.
"Yes, sir."
Humid air greeted them as they walked into the house. The inside of the house was shabby and gave out a musty smell.
Was this the place Anika lived in her childhood?
Joshua frowned. When he stepped forward, his eyes were fixed on a black-and-white photo on the table.
His pupils contracted. He walked over to take it and stared at it for a long time in disbelief.
In the photo, Anika was smiling gently and peacefully, but in her eyes was endless sadness.
Joshua clenched the hand he used to hold the photo and heavily put the photo down.
"Well done! You're enjoying this action, aren't you?
"A portrait? Are you serious?"
Joshua didn't notice that his voice was shaking.
The house was small. It only had two bedrooms and a living room, so he soon walked to its end.
Except for furniture, there were no other things in the house. Joshua walked around and didn't find anything.
Rumble!
After the thunder, a bolt of lightning illuminated the portrait.
Joshua asked Payton to come in. "Find out where Anika's nanny went."
"Yes, sir."
Payton left.
Joshua let the guard leave and stayed alone, wanting to find out the truth when the owner of the house returned.
He waited for a whole day.
In the afternoon, the rain stopped. Joshua heard the conversation between the neighbors.
