Chapter 19
Chapter 19
As the car pulled up to the Ashford Family residence, Narissa couldn't shake the nervousness creeping in. This would be only her second meeting with Dion's family since their wedding.
Dion noticed her tension and, squeezing her hand, gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. My parents really like you. They've been talking about you all the way here," he said softly.
Narissa exhaled a relieved sigh, and they stepped into the house. At the dining table, Carol's face lit up with joy as she eagerly served Narissa more food.
"Mom, that's enough, I'm fine," Narissa chuckled, embarrassed by her mother's attention.
Carol laughed warmly and placed a few more dishes on her plate. "You're too thin! You need to eat more. Don't be shy, help yourself to whatever you like."
As the conversation moved to children, Narissa's smile softened, her heart swelling with warmth. "It's a girl, but we're still figuring things out. Neither of us has experience raising kids."
At first, neither Narissa nor Dion had planned on starting a family. Parenthood had seemed like an overwhelming step, and they weren't ready for it. But when the unexpected pregnancy happened, Narissa couldn't bring herself to end it. After talking with Dion, they agreed to keep the baby.
Narissa placed a hand on her belly, her eyes soft with affection. Carol patted her gently on the arm. "Don't worry, you've got us. We're just sitting at home bored. When the baby comes, we'll help take care of her. You two won't need to stress."
"Thank you, Mom," Narissa said, the warmth in her heart growing.
Carol smiled. "There's no need to thank me. We're family. I've always wanted a daughter, and in my heart, you're just like one."
Dion's father, John, added kindly, "The most important thing is to take care of your health. Don't worry about the baby; we'll handle it."
As the meal continued, they talked about their time abroad, which truly touched Narissa. Beneath the table, Dion kept holding her hand, his calm and steady gaze reassuring her. Narissa smiled at him, feeling the weight of her anxiety lift as she settled into conversation with Carol.
Meanwhile, Dion excused himself to answer a phone call. His gentle demeanor remained intact as he walked away, but as soon as he was out of sight, his expression darkened. A cold, sharp edge to his features replaced his usual softness. "I didn't expect them to have the audacity to show up here. Since they're so eager to stir up trouble, let's not hold back," he said, his voice icy.
The bodyguard on the other end responded, "Understood, Sir."
As they spoke, Drake and Evan barged into the Ashford residence with a group of their own men, throwing a tantrum as they recklessly smashed things, venting two years of pent-up frustration. But before long, a team of black-clad bodyguards surrounded them, blocking their path.
Drake didn't seem bothered by the confrontation. He straightened his clothes, unphased by the growing tension. With a cold sneer, he said, "Finally, someone shows up. I was beginning to think the Ashford Family had all died off."
His words, laced with insults, caused the bodyguards' expressions to darken. One of them muttered, "You really don't know your place."
Drake let out a mocking laugh. "Tell your boss to come out and bring Narissa. I want to see her. If not, don't blame us for taking legal action."
The bodyguard responded coldly, "My boss and his wife are not people you can just meet on demand."
He raised his hand, and the bodyguards quickly subdued Drake, Evan, and their group with ease.
Seeing how effortlessly his men had been overpowered, Drake's face turned even colder. "What do you mean, 'his wife'? Narissa is my fiancée! If you don't let us see her, we'll sue you!"
Evan, pale with frustration, attempted to reason with them. But his face grew harder as he spoke through clenched teeth. "His wife? My sister is unmarried. Since when did she become anyone's wife?"
The bodyguard remained unfazed, pulling out his phone to call the police. "You've broken into a private residence, caused damage, and now you want to sue us? You're living in a fantasy. You two are going to the station."
Drake and Evan realized that there was no way out. They had spent over two years searching for Narissa, and now that they'd finally found her, being told to leave felt like a death sentence.
Unable to keep quiet, Drake snapped, "I'm her fiancé! The Ashford Family is keeping my fiancée from me! We're just trying to find her! They're the ones who should be arrested!"
His desperation was evident, but the bodyguards were unfazed. They knew who was in charge, and they didn't take threats lightly.
