Chapter 23
Chapter 23
"How could anyone who refuses to see their dying father be anything but heartless?"
"Exactly. No matter what mistakes have been made, when it comes to life and death, family should come first. Her brother begged her, but she just stayed cold. I've never seen a sister act like that."
However, just when the situation seemed to settle, an old scandal from two years ago resurfaced, shaking everyone. Suddenly, the Sterling Family lost all sympathy.
"I apologize. This is all my fault. What good is a father and brother who favor an illegitimate daughter? No wonder she turned out so cold. If it were me, I'd have slapped them across the face."
"Unbelievable, he has the nerve to try and track her down. If he truly felt guilty, he wouldn't even show his face."
Meanwhile, Evan posted an apology online, but it only sparked a wave of backlash from netizens, forcing him to delete his account.
Soon after, the projects Evan had spent a fortune acquiring from Dion turned into disasters. Not only did they fail to bring in profits, but they also dragged him into deeper trouble.
As a result, the Sterling Family's fortune crumbled, facing pressure from other powerful families until they vanished from the public eye.
At that moment, Dion was on the phone with Wendy, who was laughing uncontrollably on the other end. "Who told him to try to steal projects from you? What a fool to waste money like that. He's probably furious, but he doesn't even realize he's been played."
Dion smirked at her words. "He brought this upon himself. After everything he's done, a simple apology won't fix things."
Wendy, still amused, asked, "What about your wife?"
Dion chuckled. "She knows exactly what's going on. Now, it's Drake's turn. If he's smart, he'll back off. If not, I'll step in."
Unlike Evan, who had accepted the situation, Drake couldn't let go. Narissa had always been promised to him since childhood. How could he stand by and let her slip away?
He spared no effort, even using the full force of the Kingsley Family, and knelt before his father, begging, "Dad, please, I finally found her. I can't live without her."
His father slapped him hard, his body shaking with anger. "If Narissa didn't have a child, maybe I could understand. But now that she's married and carrying another man's child, what are you thinking? You're coveting a married woman. That will only bring shame to our family."
But those words only fueled Drake's rage. "So what if she's pregnant? Can't she get rid of the child? All I need is for Narissa to come back, and everything will go back to the way it was. Don't you care about her wealth? Most of the Ashford Family's assets are tied to her. If I'm with Narissa, it would give our family a huge advantage. We could even take down Dion and eliminate the Ashford Family's looming threat."
The mention of the Ashford Family made his father pause. Drake smirked and left the room, his eyes dark with malice. "Dion, anyone who touches what's mine will regret it."
Meanwhile, Dion received a warning. "Mr. Ashford, the other side might be preparing to make a move."
"I understand," Dion replied, hanging up. Narissa looked at him, concern in her eyes. "Did I bring you trouble?"
Dion smiled softly and pulled her into his embrace. "You're worried about me? That makes me happy. But don't stress. It's just business. I'll be gone for a few days on a trip. You stay home and rest."
At his reassurance, Narissa finally relaxed. But Dion's eyes darkened as he thought about the business trip and the looming conflict he had to deal with.
