Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Ethan was practically bouncing off the walls the day we got our marriage certificate. He kept me so busy that I lost track of time for hours. And then, just as if on cue, Harrison started calling nonstop. He'd tried to get through to me before, but every single time, Ethan had been quick to shut him down. When Ethan finally answered, Harrison's voice came through, angry and sharp.
"Nina, who the hell wants to marry you? Do you think this will make me back off? Dream on."
Ethan laughed lightly, like it was all some kind of game.
"Harrison, my wife's asleep. But once I wake her up with a kiss, we'll see if she wants to talk to you."
He leaned down to kiss me, soft and teasing, but I was so drained that I couldn't even open my eyes, let alone glare at him.
"If you touch Nina again, I swear I won't let you off the hook," Harrison snapped.
Ethan just shrugged, unfazed, and casually replied from where he stood on the balcony.
"Harrison, isn't it a little late for that? You and Nina were done long before you brought another woman into the picture."
"How do you know about that?" Harrison's voice cracked, panic creeping in. Ethan chuckled darkly, the hint of a smirk on his face.
Harrison started to stutter, "Just let Nina answer the phone, I, I can, "
Ethan leaned in and kissed me again, trailing his lips from my forehead to my lips and further down. I couldn't help but let out a soft whimper, my body too weak to fight him off.
"Ethan, are you seriously some reincarnated teddy bear?"
He pecked my lips once more and whispered, "Yep, I'm Nina's little puppy. Woof."
The next day, I woke up to a call from my best friend.
"You married Harrison?! Why didn't you tell me?" Her voice was full of disbelief.
I paused for a second, then decided it was time to spill the truth.
"It wasn't him."
"Huh? What do you mean, it wasn't him?"
"I mean, the person I actually got the marriage certificate with is Ethan Hunter, not Harrison."
I was expecting her to go off, but instead, she sounded relieved, almost giddy.
"Oh my god! Your eyes are finally open! That jerk Harrison was useless beyond his looks."
"He's got a temper like a volcano, and it's always like everyone owes him something."
I couldn't help but laugh. My friend had been one of the first to sing Harrison's praises, always telling me how charming he was and how he was "boyfriend material." She'd never hesitated to have my back.
"Girl, tell me everything. How did you come to this?"
I recounted everything to her, from Harrison being the emotional dead weight he was to how, if I hadn't stepped in, she would've likely been reading about Harrison getting dumped out of nowhere.
