Chapter 11-12

When Gracelyn went to work the next day, she noticed that the office had an unusual tension. She approached Marina and asked in a small voice, "Marina, what happened?"

Looking at the awkward smile on Marina's face, Gracelyn had an ominous feeling.

"Your future mother-in-law just visited the office."

"Gracelyn, come to my office." Rosa Webley, Gracelyn's department head, showed up out of nowhere and knocked on her desk.

Rosa tossed a tablet on the desk without a word. Gracelyn looked down and saw a postponed video. Her heart sank. Still, she picked up the tablet and clicked play.

Gracelyn trembled in anger because the woman in the video had completely twisted the truth. The woman in the video had tanned skin and her weather-beaten face was full of wrinkles. She looked exactly like a hard-working farmer with her plain clothes and tear-streaked face. Anyone who didn't know the truth and watched the video would believe her words and think she was the victim.

"She was smearing my name. This isn't the truth."

"I don't care what the truth is. Gracelyn, I have to remind you not to let your personal life affect the company. Can you handle this problem? Fix it or you don't have to come back to work."

"Yes. I understand."

Gracelyn turned to leave the office, but Rosa stopped her by calling, "Wait."

She pinched the bridge of her nose. "I was so angry about your domestic problem that I almost forgot the real job. Mr. Dalton emailed me about a business dinner tonight. You and Marina are responsible for the customer reception. I'll send you the address. You need to arrive early and set everything up."

A Bentley pulled up in front of the hotel slowly. Marina had dressed up and was excited when she saw the car.

"Here it comes. I swear that the client is really handsome. Believe me."

The car door opened and two men got out of the car.
