Chapter 11
Chapter 11
"I won't marry that wicked woman!" Lorenzo shouted. "It was all her idea! Danna, I don't want her! You're the only one I love!"
At that, Vanessa threw herself at him, desperately clinging to him.
"Loren, stop being delusional. Danna is the Princess Consort now. She's out of your league. You'll never reach her!" Vanessa wailed. "I'm the one who truly loves you. Marry me, I don't care what you've lost."
But Lorenzo shoved her away like she was nothing.
"Get lost! If it weren't for you seducing me, I never would've left her! If it weren't for you, I'd still be the richest man in the country! Maybe I'd even have twin sons by now!"
"You wretched woman! You told me to fake amnesia, to lie to her, to say she loved me so much she'd never leave. You said when the time was right, I could 'regain my memory' and she'd follow me!"
Lorenzo's face twisted in rage as he kicked Vanessa over and over again. Each blow was harder than the last. Vanessa screamed in agony, rolling on the floor.
But then her eyes flashed with fury, and she shouted back, "Lorenzo, you deserve to rot in prison with nothing to your name! How dare you hit me? You're the real trash here!"
"You know Danna grew up with you for twenty years, treating you like gold. All I had to do was flatter you, say I admired you, and you followed me like a dog."
"I told you to fake amnesia, and you did. I told you to curse Danna, and you did. I told you to hit her, and you did! Are you a dog, just obeying your master like that?"
"Everything you're suffering now, you deserve it. Danna was lucky to never end up with an animal like you. You're only fit to die behind bars."
Lorenzo's face turned an ugly shade of green. He shook his head furiously.
"No–it wasn't like that! It was you, you filthy liar! You said you'd be more obedient than Danna! You said I could do anything to you in bed! You tempted me, you destroyed everything!"
He screamed, lunging at Vanessa and straddling her, slamming her head against the floor with violent force. Vanessa shrieked and struggled, but her cries fell silent as blood pooled around her.
Lorenzo turned toward me, eyes wild and deranged. "Danna, I've already killed the woman who hurt you. No one will ever come between us again. Please, just forgive me. If I even glance at another woman, I'll gouge out my eyes! Just don't leave me."
That was enough for Charles. He marched forward, fury in his eyes, and kicked Lorenzo hard in the chest.
"Danna is my wife now. You dare look at her like that? You must be tired of living!"
But Lorenzo seemed impervious to pain. Blood smeared across his face, he crawled toward me like a madman.
"Danna, don't leave me! I was wrong! You're the only one I ever truly loved–you should've been my wife!"
I stared at his outstretched hand, then slapped it aside with all my strength.
"Lorenzo, you're a murderer now. You assaulted a French royal prince, and you still have the audacity to talk about love? You disgust me."
I turned away, refusing to give him another glance.
Men like him–shameless and vile–had the power to destroy your soul just by existing in your life.
Charles came to my side, gently taking my hand, concern in his eyes.
"My darling, did you hurt your hand? Don't get angry next time–let me do the fighting. You just watch, alright?"
With that, he backhanded Lorenzo with such force that he flew three meters across the room.
Another kick.
Then another.
Until Lorenzo lay in a heap on the ground, gasping for breath like a wounded animal.
Charles waved to the guards. "Take him to the police. Butler, handle the details."
News of Lorenzo's crimes spread quickly, and soon everyone knew his reputation was beyond saving. People avoided him like the plague. Even his lawyer barely made an effort to defend him.
Two weeks later, the court sentenced Lorenzo to life in prison. He went to prison screaming like a madman, claiming to be the richest man in the country, the Princess Consort's brother.
But within days, he was found dead in his cell, his eyes wide open in terror, staring blankly into the void.
When I heard the news, I was in New York with Charles and our two babies, touring the city's scenic spots under the mayor's personal escort.
The mayor, holding my hand warmly, said, "Your Highness, New York's millions of citizens are counting on you. On their behalf, I thank you and His Highness for investing in our city."
Charles wrapped his arm around me affectionately, smiling down at me.
"Mayor, Danna's hometown is my hometown too. I promise, we'll turn it into the most beautiful city there is."
The mayor beamed, his face glowing with excitement.
I looked up at Charles and smiled.
So this was what all the detours had been for–to meet someone truly worthy.
Thankfully, fate had been kind.
It made sure I never missed the one who loved me the most.
