Chapter Twenty-Three
Chapter Twenty-Three
A Newfound Strength
Lily’s POV
Although Zack had chosen to forgive the boys for their behavior and seemed to be alright at the time, after he took me home to rest, he simply left. He wrapped up my arm with a small bandage even though his blood had helped out a lot. But then he said he needed to go somewhere and left.
The mansion was big enough to pace around–which was exactly what I did because I was so nervous. After what seemed like an eternity, the phone in the kitchen rang. The red one.
I rushed to pick it up and on the other side was an unusually calm Alpha Leo.
“Lily?”
“Y-yes, Alpha Leo, it’s me. Is everything alright?”
Alpha Leo let out a sigh. “Not really. I just received word about three of my pack boys having been killed… Tell me, is His Majesty with you right now?”
I couldn’t answer him, especially since he already knew the answer to the question.
Alpha Leo let out a sigh at my silence. “I figured as much… Did His Majesty say anything? Did something happen?”
Hesitating, I told Alpha Leo about the encounter earlier today. I told him about how the three boys didn’t recognize Zack, started to flirt with me, and then caused me to trip and hurt myself on one of the garden vases.
Alpha Leo gasped. “Lily, you’re hurt?”
“I mean… I was, but Za–I mean, His Majesty helped me by dressing the wound with some bandages.” I didn’t want to tell him that Zack had been giving me his blood. I didn’t think that anyone else needed to know that part…
After a few moments of silence, Alpha Leo spoke up again. “I can see why His Majesty needed to carry out more justice… I can see that my pack has offended His Majesty. Please, stay put at the mansion, Lily. I’ll send people over to amend the problem.”
When I hung up the phone, Zack walked through the door. There was blood all over his shirt and pants.
We exchanged looks but I didn’t say anything. I knew that it was basically in his nature to kill when anyone offended him. Not to mention, offending the Fire Wolf that lived in him.
So, I simply smiled at him and took his hand. “I’ll run a bath for you… Alpha Leo said that he’s gonna have some people come over to make it up to you.”
We went upstairs and I ran a cold bath for him. When he got into the tub, I sat on the toilet seat next to the tub, looking away so he could clean himself off.
“Lily?” Zack called out to me.
I looked at him, his wet hair framing his chiseled face and sharp jawline. Suddenly, I had become shy like I was back at school looking at my first crush. “Hm?”
Zack handed me the washcloth and motioned for me to sit on the tub instead. “Don’t you want to help your mate clean off?”
Feeling my cheeks get hot, I put soap on the washcloth and began to scrub the blood and dirt away from Zack’s body. I traced my fingers along his muscles as I did.
Zack then pulled me in for a strong and deep kiss. My heart fluttered as his tongue wrapped around mine for a few seconds.
He reached his hand up to caress my neck, a moan escaped my lips.
But then the doorbell rang and I jumped in surprise, breaking the kiss.
Zack pulled away and growled as he took the washcloth from me. “I’ll meet you downstairs, Lily. Let me finish up.”
I ran downstairs and regained my composure. Opening up the door I gasped when I saw the line of people outside.
“Are you the maid to the Lycan King?”
I nodded my head.
“Alpha Leo has sent us to bring you delicious foods for His Majesty. We know that His Majesty has already exacted his justice on troublemakers for hurting you and offending him, but we’re here to offer our apologies.”
Before I could say anything, they filed into the mansion and made their way to the kitchen. Every countertop was full and when Zack finally joined us, he was in shock.
“What is all this?” His voice was loud.
“Alpha Leo said the food was for you as an apology gift…” I smiled.
Zack squinted at the servants who brought in the food. “Take a bite out of it then.”
I looked at the group of Night Walker servants, not even realizing that maybe it was all a ruse to poison him. Yet, without hesitation, they all took a bite out of each of the food and swallowed it.
After a few minutes of waiting and no side effects, Zack nodded his head. “Is that all?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“Alright. Leave.”
The servants nodded and quickly left the house. I looked around at all of the food and sighed.
Taking one of the trays, Zack led me to the living room and sat on the couch. He pulled me beside him and put the tray on my lap. “You should feed me.”
Rolling my eyes, I opened the covering to the various fruits, vegetables, and seasoned meat that lined the tray. I decided to feed grapes to Zack first.
I learned quickly that he didn’t like fruits based on how his face contorted into disgust, but he continued to eat them anyway. I’m guessing because he was being fed as an actual king would.
I was about to place a strawberry into Zack’s mouth when he took my fingers in, too. He took the strawberry with his teeth, licking my fingers as he pulled back.
I looked down at the tray to grab another piece as I blushed. “Stop messing around…”
Zack chuckled as he ate the fruit, taking the tray off my lap and settling it in his.
“Let me feed you.” Zack’s voice was low.
Zack started with the other pieces of fruit. The grapes, strawberries, and slices of mango. He fed them to me slowly, sticking his fingers a little further in my mouth as he did.
I knew he wanted me to react, so I did the same thing he did. I took the strawberry in between my teeth and licked his fingers as he pulled out.
Zack let out a groan as he went to pick up another piece of fruit.
I smiled and looked down at his hand and noticed something. The cut that he reopened earlier today still hadn’t healed. It was the same cut on his hand that he gave himself when I got poisoned and he was trying to save me.
Zack noticed me staring at his hand and raised my chin to meet his eyes.
“I’m fine, seriously,” Zack said as if he knew what was on my mind.
“Are you sure? It’s just, that cut was a few days ago and I thought you would’ve been–”
“I lost a lot of blood when I gave you my blood to help with the poison, remember? So my regenerative abilities are still a little slow. Stop worrying.” Zack was starting to get irritated.
I nodded my head, not wanting to anger him. Still, I couldn’t take my mind off of his injury.
Please, Zack… Don’t lie to me…
