Chapter Twenty-Two
Chapter Twenty-Two
A Change of Heart
Lily’s POV
After what Zack did to Alex, out of all things, I wasn’t expecting Alpha Leo to come and offer him the old mansion. I honestly thought it was all a trap for something more malicious, but since Zack agreed, maybe things weren’t going to be so bad.
I packed a small bag with a few outfits and the essentials, then went to meet Zack downstairs. He greeted me with a smile.
“Ready?”
I nodded my head as we walked outside and made our way toward the mansion. The walk felt longer than I remembered but then again, I figured it was because I was nervous.
When we arrived, Alpha Leo bowed at us and opened the door. “Home, sweet home. I hope that the place has been cleaned and redecorated to your liking.” He handed the keys to me.
It was weird being back after what happened… I wasn’t sure if I could stomach living in the place of someone I was forced to murder.
The mansion was completely spotless; almost like nothing happened, and no one was killed. I looked around to see that the furniture, for the most part, was the same. White on white coupled with the crazy amounts of wide windows made the inside feel sleek and open.
I bowed at Alpha Leo and smiled at him. “Thank you for your hospitality, Alpha.”
“Nonsense, there’s no need to thank me.” Although he smiled back, I didn’t sense any happiness behind his eyes. “If you need me, there’s a red phone in the kitchen. Just dial star-89 and it’ll ring my house phone.”
Alpha Leo waved goodbye and then left us alone.
I looked at Zack who seemed to be indifferent about the house. He turned to me and shrugged his shoulders.
“I didn’t get to take a good look at this place while we were here last time,” Zack smiled mischievously. “Let’s go take a look at everything.”
I followed Zack around the mansion, not paying attention to the details of the place. All the decorations looked like what was supposed to be in a mansion.
Some timeless antiques, some modern luxury items. There was a beautiful oil painting of a cliff overlooking the ocean with a lighthouse, and then there were some photo frames of Alex and his family.
There were also an insane amount of rooms–more than what Zack and I needed. Most of them were guestrooms, aside from there being a study, an in-home gym, and an indoor theatre/game room.
We decided to make our way outside after exploring the inside of the mansion. I was surprised to see a decent-sized greenhouse that led to the backyard.
There were grown tomatoes, lettuce, and strawberries. There were also some flowers, too, like roses, lilies, and petunias.
I smiled as I picked a few of the ripened strawberries as well as having picked out one of the roses to place in my hair. When I looked back at Zack, he smiled at me.
“I see you’re adjusting to the place pretty well. Let’s go check out the backyard and see the pool. That’s the main thing I’m looking forward to.”
As we made our way to the backyard, we were surprised to see a group of guys hanging out by the pool. They looked up at us and gave us a wave.
“Hey, you guys want to go for a swim?”
Their calm and casual behavior made me confused. Did they not know who was standing beside me?
I walked towards them, wanting to tell them that they were in the presence of the Lycan King. I didn’t want them to get hurt because of their disrespect, so I thought to approach them myself and explain everything.
“Hi, um… I just wanted to let you guys know that–”
But I was interrupted by one of them grabbing my arm and pulling me against their body.
“Hey, you’re kinda cute.”
I froze in place when I saw all three of them surround me.
“What’s your name, pretty lady?”
I struggled against the one who was holding me. “P-please, I need you to let me go…”
“What, the party’s just starting.” One of them grinned at me.
I struggled more against them as they started to grope me. Their hands were all over my body, my chest, and one of them even slid his hand up my thigh.
I squirmed and tried to hit back and in doing so, I lost my footing and tripped backward to one of the large garden vases behind me. The sound of the shatter was enough to stop the boys from pursuing me–especially after they saw that I had cut my arm.
When I looked up at the guys, Zack was already behind them. His red eyes glowed so brightly and in a matter of seconds, he had shifted into his Fire Wolf.
The boys screamed as they tried to run away, but Zack was too quick for them. He tripped two of them as they tried to run, and grabbed the other one by his long hair and yanked him backward.
Zack had grabbed the long-haired guy by the throat and was getting ready to kill him.
“Zack, wait!” I yelled.
Zack snapped his head to me and snarled. “These little shits are going to pay for disrespecting and hurting you!”
I raised my hands as the blood dripped from my arm. “Zack… Zack, please… I need you to calm down. They’re not worth the energy…”
I gave him a small smile. “Plus, I need your help with this,” I pointed to the cut on my arm.
Zack let out a huff and threw the guy to the ground as he rushed to my side. Shifting back into his human form, Zack re-opened the cut on his hand from the other day when he saved me from the poison.
Before I could even question him about it, he had already pressed his mouth to my lips as I took in his blood. Opening my eyes, I looked down to see that the cut I got was already healing.
Taking my mouth away from his hand, I blushed and looked back at the group of terrified boys.
I gave them a small smile. “I was trying to tell you something before you all interrupted me… This is the Lycan King.”
Fear flashed through their eyes as they got on their knees and begged Zack to forgive them.
“Please, Your Majesty! Forgive us for our ignorance!”
“We had no idea that you were coming here, honest!”
“We’re so sorry, Your Majesty! We didn’t mean to offend you and your lady!”
I looked up at Zack who was glaring at them. I squeezed his arm gently and gave him a sweet smile.
Zack let out another huff and then waved at the boys dismissively. “Alright, alright. You’re forgiven–but only because Lily’s a kind woman. Now, leave my house.”
The boys nodded their heads and shifted into the wolf forms, running away from the mansion as quickly as they could.
I got on my tip-toes and kissed Zack on the cheek. “See? Being merciful isn’t always so bad.”
Zack groaned and picked me up as he took me back inside of the mansion to rest. I snuggled against his chest and let out a deep breath.
Is the evil Lycan King starting to have a change of heart?
