Rebirth as the Cheating Husband's Worst Nightmare

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Margaret Johnson leaned back, a smug grin spreading across her face. "That's my boy, always knows how to keep a woman in line. You give 'em an inch, they'll take a mile."

Liam smirked, crossing his legs. "Don't worry, Mom. She's scared of my temper. One glare, and she folds. This time, I'll make sure she learns her lesson."

I stood just outside the door, listening, a smirk tugging at my lips.

This scene felt all too familiar.

In my past life, we'd agreed to divorce, but on the way to the Civil Affairs Bureau, I panicked, terrified Liam would take the kids. I backed out at the last moment.

After that, I could never hold my head high in the Johnson household again.

Every time Liam cheated, he'd threaten divorce. And by then, I'd lost the will to fight back.

Liam stormed out and saw me sitting calmly on the couch. "What's the holdup? Weren't you the one who wanted a divorce? Let's go!"

The twins, Noah and Emma, froze when they heard the word "divorce."

"Mom… are you and Dad really getting divorced?"

I gently patted their heads. "Your dad says he's taking you with him. Go pack your things. After the divorce, you'll live with him in a big house."

Noah clapped excitedly. "Yes! I want Grace as my new mom! She's so nice when she helps me with homework, way better than you!"

Emma chimed in, "Me too! Grace is prettier than Mom. When she picks me up from school, all my friends will be so jealous!"

I smiled even wider. "Then you'd better help your dad marry Grace quickly."

Margaret shrieked as she rushed out. "What?! You're kicking me out? This is my son's house!"

Liam's face darkened. "Sophia, do you really have to be this cruel?"

"Cruel?" I blinked innocently. "After the divorce, you and Grace will live in the house my parents bought. Wouldn't it be awkward for her to see all my things everywhere? You're a university professor, you wouldn't want to steal your ex-wife's premarital property, would you? Imagine the scandal."

Liam glowered but followed me to the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Amidst sobbing couples, my bright smile stood out starkly.

The clerk slid the papers forward. "Children to the father, wife leaves with nothing. Sign here if there are no issues."

"No issues." I signed without hesitation.

Liam hesitated, then scribbled his name.

A woman nearby spat in disgust. "Disgraceful! What kind of man strips his wife of everything?"

Liam shot her a venomous glare.

Stepping outside, I exhaled in relief.

Just thirty more days in the cooling-off period, and I'd be free of this family for good.

"Move out as soon as possible. I'll pay the alimony on time," I said without looking back.

Liam turned and left without a word.

At home, Margaret was scowling as she fed Richard.

She slammed the bowl down when she saw me. "Oh, you're back? Too lazy to cook, trying to starve us?"

"Auntie, you have working limbs. Can't you cook for yourself?"

"Auntie?!"

"Isn't that right?" I feigned confusion. "Liam and I are divorced. Should I still call you Mom?"

"You, you actually signed?!"

Ignoring her, I went to pack Liam's belongings.

Over the years, the Johnsons had infested the house like locusts.

Every corner was cluttered with their junk, even Liam's sister Olivia had claimed a room.

Just looking at it made my blood boil.

When Liam returned that night, he kicked his packed luggage in fury.

The twins burst into tears.

In the past, I was the hysterical one.

Now, with me silent and composed, it was Liam who'd lost control.

I watched coldly as Margaret began berating the children, her insults raining down.

Liam scrambled to mediate, exhausted.

I stopped lifting a finger for Richard.

Within days, Liam looked haggard.

Between work and the chaos at home, he barely had time to check his phone.

"Sophia, what the hell do you want?" Liam cornered me outside the bathroom.

I adjusted my face mask. "What do you mean?"

"The house is a disaster! Mom and I are exhausted!"

"Not my problem. They're your parents."

"You eat my food, live under my roof, and dare to talk like this?"

I scoffed. "Get your facts straight. You're living in my house. Be grateful I'm not charging rent."

"Fine! Let's see how you survive without me!"

"Don't worry about me. I start my new job tomorrow."

After weeks of job hunting, I'd been hired by a promising trading company.

"Who said you could work? I provide for you!" Liam roared.

I wagged a finger. "Reminder: we're divorced."

Liam smirked. "Think it's that easy? The cooling-off period isn't over. If I refuse to finalize it, the divorce won't happen!"

As he slammed the door, I smiled.

No rush. The best was yet to come.
