Rebirth as the Cheating Husband's Worst Nightmare

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Grace gave a gentle nod and walked off, her slender figure as delicate as a white lily in the wind.

I watched her go, a cold smirk tugging at my lips.

No wonder Liam couldn't resist such a docile little plaything.

But just as I reached the front door, I heard shouting from inside.

I pushed it open, and there was Olivia, draped across the couch, sobbing like her world had ended, mascara streaking down her cheeks.

Daniel and his parents sat across from her, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else. Margaret, of course, was jabbing a finger at her son.

"What's wrong with our Olivia, huh? How dare you cheat on her!" she yelled.

I almost laughed out loud.

So, the truth finally spilled out.

Daniel and Liam, two peas in a sleazy pod.

"Sis-in-law," Daniel greeted me with a tight smile, clearly hoping I wouldn't make things worse.

I raised my voice a notch and said sweetly, "Daniel! You're looking great. Must be living the dream these days, huh?"

Olivia's head shot up, her eyes bloodshot. "What's that supposed to mean, Sophia?"

"Exactly what it sounds like," I replied coolly, setting down my purse. "If you can't keep your man from wandering, maybe stop blaming everyone else for it."

"You, !" Olivia sprang up, fists clenched.

I quickly stepped beside Daniel's mom and said, "Auntie, don't you agree? A man like Daniel is bound to have some... obligations. A woman who can't keep him happy should reflect, not throw tantrums."

Daniel's mother beamed. "Finally, someone who gets it! Our Daniel's an ambitious man. Olivia's drama is embarrassing!"

I gasped with mock horror. "Olivia, you actually stormed into his office and caused a scene? How uncultured!" Then I turned to Daniel. "Honestly, some women need discipline. Spare the rod, spoil the wife, right?"

Daniel puffed up instantly and tossed Olivia a smug glance.

I added, "Take me, for example. I never question Liam's affairs. He could have a whole cheer squad on the side, as long as they don't show up at our doorstep, I don't care."

"Sis-in-law, you're absolutely right!" Daniel grinned. "Olivia acts like a total shrew!"

Olivia snapped. "Get out of my house, Sophia!"

I tilted my head, smiling. "Funny, I was about to say the same to you. This house? It's mine. The Johnsons are just squatters at this point."

Olivia lunged at me again, but this time I slapped her, hard.

"A barren hen like you wants to run the coop? Please," I said coldly.

Even Daniel flinched.

His biggest insecurity had always been Olivia's infertility.

Margaret jumped in, right on cue. "Honestly, Daniel should just divorce her. That other woman's already carrying our grandson!"

"No! Mom, please! Don't make him leave me!" Olivia wailed, grabbing at her mother-in-law's arm in desperation.

And then Margaret's face went pale. She clutched her chest and collapsed.

At the hospital, Daniel and his parents were running around in panic.

Liam had no choice but to drop everything and start pulling double shifts, working all day, then staying at the hospital all night to care for his mother. Meanwhile, his kids and dad were completely neglected.

Eventually, he came to my place, looking like death warmed over. "The family's a mess right now. We can't go through with the divorce yet."

"You can't. I can." I said while painting my nails, not even glancing at him.

Liam ran a hand through his hair, clearly at his wit's end. "Can't you just think about the bigger picture? You weren't like this before!"

"That's because I was a fool back then. Now? I've wised up."

He suddenly grabbed my hand. "Sophia, I'm begging you. The family needs you. The kids need you."

I sighed dramatically. "You're right. A daughter-in-law should take care of her mother-in-law."

Liam's eyes lit up like he'd just won the lottery. "I knew you still cared."

The next morning, Liam pushed open the hospital room door, only to see Grace sitting at Margaret's bedside, gently wiping her forehead.

Worse? A few of his university colleagues showed up just in time to witness the tender scene.

I made my entrance right on cue, all smiles. "Thank you all for coming."

"Mrs. Johnson," one of them greeted politely.

I chuckled. "Oh no, don't call me that." I reached over and pulled a startled Grace forward. "This is your new Mrs. Johnson, Grace. She's three months pregnant. Liam and I are just rushing the divorce so their child doesn't end up with a messy family record."

The room went dead silent.

Everyone stared at Liam. Grace looked like she was about to cry.

Before he could say a word, I turned on my heel and walked out.

He caught up to me in the hallway. "You proud of yourself? You just humiliated me in front of my colleagues."

I gave him a cold smile. "Didn't you say Grace was just a friend? Must be one hell of a friendship, it even makes babies."

His jaw tightened. "Deadline's in two days. If you don't want to get dragged through the mud, you'll come sign those papers."

"Gladly," I said, brushing past him. "But you're not taking the kids."

He grabbed my arm. "What the hell do you mean?"

I yanked it free. "I mean exactly what I said."

And I walked off, heels clicking with every step.

On the day of the divorce, Liam showed up with the kids... and a glowing, very pregnant Grace.

Noah held her arm carefully. "Be careful, Mom."

"You're such a sweetheart, Noah," Grace said, eyes sparkling.

I stood there, unmoved.

In my past life, I gave everything to those ungrateful brats.

Now? They were just background noise.

"Today's your last chance to see them," Liam said with a smug grin. "After this, you'll never see them again."

"Fine."

He frowned. "You're not even gonna try to stop me? If you apologize, I might reconsider."

Grace clutched his arm nervously, clearly rattled.

I laughed. "Should you really be saying that in front of your new wife?"

The moment we signed the divorce papers, I almost burst out laughing.

Liam mistook my joy for heartbreak. "Too late for regrets now."

That same day, he and Grace registered their marriage.

I cried again, tears of joy this time.

Finally, the trash took itself out.
