Chapter 7
Chapter 7
A tremor ran through me. Alone with Elliot and Zane?I didn't know what to do and considered going over to Maddie's to stay the night. I was so afraid to face them.
"Okay, mom. I might call Maddie and see what she's doing tonight. Would it be okay if I stayed at her house if she's free?"
Mom nodded. "That'll be perfectly fine. Just let your brothers know where you are so that nobody worries."
"Okay," I grumbled.
After kissing me on the cheek, she stood up and grabbed her keys from the counter. "I'll see you tomorrow, Eden." She left the room quickly, leaving nothing behind but the sweet scent of her flowery perfume.
I hunched over the table, pushing the sandwich aside and toying with my phone. Sending a quick text to Maddie, I asked to stay the night. Her reply was immediate when she informed me she was going out with her boyfriend and wouldn't be home.
Great. I was stuck at my house with Elliot and Zane.
After mom left, I sat in the kitchen continuing to pick at my sandwich for over an hour. The television blared in the living room and I knew Oliver and Zane were still out there. I wanted to go up to my room, but I didn't want to walk past them. I couldn't stand not knowing whether Elliot had told Zane about what happened between us.
I wanted to talk to Elliot about it, wanted to clear the air about the dirty little secret we had between us. Deep down, I wanted it to happen again, but I wouldn't admit that to him because I could barely admit it to myself. Snapshots and flash memories of his body played out in my thoughts, bits and pieces of the way he looked, the things he said, the way he made me feel when he touched me. I was clenching my thighs just thinking about it.
"You planning on hiding out in here all day?"
I jumped at the sound of the voice, not knowing whether it was Elliot or Zane before finally forcing myself to turn around. Zane stood in the doorway, a knowing smile on his face. I shrunk in my seat, embarrassment flaming red on my cheeks.
"Just eating lunch." Ilied.
Strolling over to the table with a lazy step, he leaned against the counter, the lights above him shining off the muscles of his bare chest and abdomen. He was wearing a pair of black jogging shorts and it gave me a front row view of his perfect physique. He looked identical to Elliot, right down to the wicked glint in his silver-blue eyes and the arrogant grin pulling at the corners of his mouth.
"Looks to me like you haven't eaten much for as long as you've been in here." The same deep and haunting voice as his brother, Zane stared down at me like he was studying me. He had to know .Elliot must have told him. Neither of the twins had been interested in talking to me since they returned home. Why was he so interested now?
"Just eating slowly," I shrugged.
"Uh huh." He chuckled. "I'm going out tonight. Met a girl a few days ago and I'm going to a club with her for a few hours. Looks like you're home
alone with Elliot. Maybe you two can catch up while watching a movie or something."
My stomach threatened to force up the bits of sandwich I'd just forced down. "Why are you telling me this?" I couldn't look up at him. I didn't want to see the lazy smile on his face.
"Just thought you'd like to know. For now, I'm going out for a run and then I'll be showering and taking off. It's getting late."
He pushed off from the counter and left the room, turning off the light and leaving me in a dark room.
Jerk, I thought.
Breathing out a heavy sigh, I got up from my seat to scrape off my plate into the trash and put it in the sink. I inched towards the kitchen doorway, rolling back my shoulders as I prepared to run through the living room and run up the stairs as quickly as possible. I'd hide in my room the entire night if that's what I had to do, but I couldn't face Elliot.
Ready.set .I took off.
Bounding through the living room, I ignored Elliot even though from the corner of my eye I could see his head turn to follow me. Leaping up the stairs two at a time, I rounded the corner quickly, almost losing my footing in the process. I jumped into my room, slammed the door shut and threw myself on the bed, burying my face into the pillow.
