Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Liam Cooper basked in the attention as our classmates cheered him on.
"Guys! It's Mr. Cooper's treat tonight. Let's go to his villa for a barbecue! Eat and drink as much as you want!"
"Thank you, Mr. Cooper!"
"Mr. Cooper, you're amazing!"
Liam lifted his hand in a casual wave, playing the role of a generous host. But when his gaze landed on me, his expression darkened.
"Selina, why are you just standing there? Go tell the staff to get everything ready."
I stared at him, my heart pounding. A flood of memories rushed through me, I had died. Betrayed. Tortured. Murdered.
And now I was back.
Reborn.
Liam Cooper, the so-called "Mr. Cooper," was nothing but the son of my family's servant. Yet he strutted around like he owned the world, all because of me. Because of my money.
A sharp, icy rage settled in my chest. He had destroyed my family. Stolen everything from me. And this time, I was going to make him pay.
I picked up my phone and made two calls.
First, to the housekeeper. "Lock the doors and windows. No one gets in tonight, no matter what happens. Not even a fly."
Second, to the bank. "Cancel the black card under my name. Effective immediately."
Then, without another word, I turned and walked away.
Liam was still grinning, caught up in his fantasy, completely unaware that his dream was about to shatter.
The first time I met Liam was at my house. After the college entrance exams, he had come to the city looking for his mother and took up part-time jobs to survive. Rent was expensive, so his mother asked if he could stay with us.
We were the same age and had been accepted to the same university. Over time, we became friends.
Liam came from a poor background, but he was hardworking, mature beyond his years. I admired that. And before long, I fell for him.
He had no money, so I covered all our expenses while we were together. I even gave him access to my bank account, allowing him to withdraw up to $100,000 a month. He always promised he wouldn't waste my money.
Then, once university started, his spending skyrocketed.
"A guy needs connections," he told me. "And connections cost money."
So, foolishly, I handed him my black card.
Liam kissed me like he'd just won the lottery. "I swear, Selina, I'll be careful. I won't take this for granted."
Lies.
Every month, he drained my account, living like a king. With my money, he built an image of a wealthy, sophisticated trust-fund kid. Everyone wanted to be his friend, boys and girls alike. And me?
He refused to acknowledge our relationship in public.
"I don't want people thinking I'm with you for your money," he'd say, feigning embarrassment. "And it's better if they don't know you come from money either."
I didn't understand, but I agreed. Because I loved him.
For four years, he played the perfect boyfriend.
And then he ruined me.
It started just before graduation. I spent two months writing my thesis, only to be accused of plagiarism. The investigation results showed that Liam's thesis and mine were a perfect 100% match.
It wasn't plagiarism. It was theft.
But Liam had spent years cultivating goodwill, throwing money around, my money, buying people's loyalty. When the accusation surfaced, my classmates immediately sided with him.
"Selina must have stolen his work! Mr. Cooper has always been generous to us. Why would he need to plagiarize?"
No one listened to me. No one believed me.
I was expelled.
Then Liam called, pretending to be devastated. "Selina, meet me. I'll explain everything."
Still clinging to the hope that he cared, I went to see him.
He had set a trap.
A group of men was waiting for me.
They raped me.
And when they were done, they killed me.
My parents were devastated. I was their only daughter, their whole world. But Liam, ever the actor, played the grieving boyfriend. He convinced them to let him handle everything.
In their sorrow, they trusted him.
And when he placed a contract in front of them, they signed without question.
It was the inheritance agreement.
Once they had served their purpose, Liam arranged a car accident.
My parents died instantly.
Just like that, he took everything, the wealth, the house, the company. The entire Jenkins family empire.
Because of me, a monster had been born.
Not this time.
I was back. And I wasn't the naive, lovestruck fool I had once been.
Liam, your days of pretending are over.
Let's see how you impress them now, without my money, without my name, and without my mercy.
