Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The hospital corridor was bathed in a harsh, sterile white light.
"Vivian!" Adrian rushed over in three quick strides, grabbing her wrist. "Is the baby alright?"
His grip was painfully tight, but Vivian forced a gentle smile. "The doctor said the baby is perfectly healthy. Yesterday's accident didn't cause any harm."
"Thank God..." Adrian exhaled in relief, then frowned. "But you've been tense since we got here. I thought—"
Before he could finish, Vivian pressed a finger to his lips.
Her mind flashed back to that icy glare in the fire—the same man who had once doted on her now looking at her with such coldness.
Her phone vibrated in her palm. The inbox remained empty.
"Hmph." She let out a bitter laugh and looped her arm through Adrian's as they left the hospital.
The moment she stepped into the office, her secretary hurried over. "Ms. Xavier, the Chairman has returned. He's demanding all executives gather in Conference Room One immediately."
Without breaking stride, Vivian ordered, "Prepare a selection of this season's new suits and watches for me."
"Understood. I'll have them delivered to Mr. Foster's apartment."
"Send them to the Sinclair estate," she corrected without turning back.
Where else would that man go but back to his family home?
A week later, deep into the night.
Exhausted, Vivian pushed open the door to her penthouse. A figure was curled up on the living room sofa.
"Samuel, I told you not to wait—" Her words died in her throat.
Adrian looked up from the couch, his eyes red-rimmed. "Vivian... He still won't answer my calls. Maybe... I should move out?"
Her chest tightened. She bent down and wrapped her arms around him. "Don't be ridiculous. This is your home."
After soothing Adrian, she stepped out onto the balcony alone and lit a cigarette.
Amid the swirling smoke, her phone screen flickered on and off. Finally, she typed out a message:
【Tomorrow is the Chairman's 80th birthday. Don't embarrass me.】
The moment she hit send, she crushed the cigarette between her fingers.
