Chapter 6
Chapter 6
The Xavier family mansion was adorned with festive decorations, bustling with guests.
Vivian Xavier walked in gracefully, her arm linked with Adrian Foster's. Their intimate demeanor drew many curious glances. She had deliberately chosen a haute couture gown that accentuated her radiant beauty.
"You look absolutely stunning today, Ms. Xavier," Adrian murmured in her ear.
Vivian smirked, but her gaze involuntarily flickered toward the entrance.
Only when Old Mr. Xavier appeared did she release Adrian's arm and hurry forward.
"Happy birthday, Grandfather."
The elderly man scanned the room, his brow furrowing slightly. "Where's Samuel?"
Adrian stepped in smoothly. "Mr. Sinclair has been busy preparing his gift. He'll arrive later."
Vivian's smile stiffened for a split second before she effortlessly resumed entertaining guests with her grandfather.
Two hours later, the banquet reached its peak.
"Now, let's proceed with the gift presentations!" the emcee announced loudly.
Vivian tightened her grip on her phone, dialing the familiar number for the tenth time.
"The number you have dialed is currently unavailable..."
Just then, a courier entered, carrying three gift boxes.
"These are from Mr. Sinclair."
Old Mr. Xavier beamed with delight and personally opened the first box. An exquisitely embroidered "Hundred Deities Celebrating Longevity" tapestry unfolded before the crowd, its intricate stitches bringing the figures to life.
"That boy..." The old man's eyes welled up as he tremblingly opened the second box.
A family heirloom gemstone lay quietly on velvet.
Gasps rippled through the room.
Vivian's face paled. She lunged forward and tore open the third box.
Thud.
Divorce papers fluttered to the ground.
The glaring words "HIV Positive" on the medical report burned into her vision.
Slap!
A sharp crack echoed as a resounding blow struck Vivian's cheek.
"You vile creature!" Old Mr. Xavier roared, trembling with fury. "Samuel was such a good man, and you—"
Chaos erupted.
Guests discreetly withdrew, leaving Vivian standing alone in the aftermath.
Slowly, she crouched down and picked up the divorce papers. Her fingers trembled as she shredded the documents to pieces.
Late that night, outside the Sinclair family estate.
Vivian leaned against her car, cigarette butts scattered at her feet. Her throat burned, but the pain was nothing compared to the agony in her heart.
"Samuel... you think you can just walk away?"
Five days later, her assistant hesitantly reported, "Ms. Xavier, we've confirmed that Mr. Sinclair has... left for Switzerland."
Crash!
A crystal glass shattered against the wall, shards flying everywhere.
"Book me a flight! Now!" Vivian screamed hysterically. "How dare he leave like this?"
The assistant hesitated. "But Ms. Xavier, the doctor said your test results—"
"Shut up!" Vivian shot to her feet. "It was just one mistake! How could he be so cruel?"
Outside, thunder boomed as torrential rain poured down.
Just like her shattered heart.
