Beatrice The Spy
Beatrice The Spy
Without changing her clothes, Beatrice walked briskly to follow Luke. She tried to keep her distance from him so she wouldn't be caught.
She acted like a spy who was stalking the enemy. Agile and shrewd. She saw him enter a cafe with a large waffle picture in front of it. The cafe was located not far from the Dukes Palace Hotel where they were staying.
From a few meters away she peeked into the cafe that seemed so peak and full. If she snuck up maybe Luke wouldn't have seen her.
With a quick movement, she slipped into the cafe, her face was covered with a promo leaflet that she had taken carelessly in the hotel lobby.
A waiter ushered her to a vacant seat for one person. In the midst of the cafe crowd, she found Luke who was sitting not far from her, he was sitting with his back to her, facing a beautiful woman with an oriental face that looked very attractive and elegant.
"Good afternoon, would you like to order something?"
A waiter greeted her in French.
She was silent for a moment, considering whether to order or not because the price might be a bit expensive for her.
But a moment later she remembered, she opened her wallet hurriedly and found Luke's black card perched sweetly in there.
YES, she could eat whatever she want!
"I want a cup of hot chocolate, three waffles, and a big size of french fries! Thank you!"
After the waiter had left, she looked back at Luke and the beautiful woman sitting in front of him.
'Who is she? Why meeting her so important for him?' she muttered to herself.
Separated by two tables apart and the crowded atmosphere of the cafe, she couldn't hear their conversation at all. She could only read the woman's expression which sometimes looked sad and sometimes she looked happy.
Not long after her order arrived. She swiftly put the chocolate into the hot milk and stirred it carefully, it was very satisfying for her to see the chocolate slowly melting and blending with the milk.
She sipped her hot chocolate, felt its warmth fill her chest. Minutes later she has already finished three waffles and a full serving of delicious fries. She has literally nothing to lose to follow Luke to that city! In fact, she had a good time so far!
When she saw Luke raise his hand for the bill, she did the same thing. She hurried after him who walked out hand in hand with the mysterious oriental woman. Actually, she didn't want to keep following them, but she was still curious about that woman, and what she had to do with the contract marriage she and Luke were about to have.
They walked side by side in a direction that only God knows where they were going. She had never been to Bruges at all, so she was completely blind. As she walked behind them, she was looking around and became unaware of how close she and they were, and a ridiculous thing suddenly happened.
"Excuse me, can you take the picture of us?"
The oriental woman turned around and greeted her cheerfully.
She stammered, in front of her Luke was also surprised to find her there. She had prepared an answer in case Luke suddenly scolded her, but apparently, he reacted differently. He pretended like he didn't recognize her at all.
Annoyed, she took a photo of them in front of a replica statue of a small child peeing which became a typical Belgian icon.
The oriental woman changed her pose several times, and in almost all the poses she was always being intimate with Luke, making Beatrice rolled her eyes in disgust. Jealous? Of course not! She was just a little bit annoyed because he pretended not to recognize her at all.
"Thank you so much!"
said the oriental woman as she finished posing and took back her cell phone from her.
She smiled nicely at the woman without looking at Luke at all.
"You guys are a couple?"
she asked, glancing at Luke who was glaring behind the oriental woman.
"Um, actually we are a reuniting couple, aren't we?"
she stared at Luke with a look that only God knows what that meant.
Luke smiled, but after the woman turned her eyes from him, he hastily signaled for Beatrice to get out of there by moving her chin.
"Are you on vacation here? Alone?"
asked the woman before she could say goodbye. She was silent for a moment, tempted to tease Luke and provoke his reaction.
"Yeah for the holidays, no, I'm not alone, I'm with my future husband!"
she replied cheerfully, she glanced at Luke who was glaring at her in annoyance.
"Future husband? That sounds pretty serious! So you guys are getting married?" asked her curiously.
Beatrice smiled, "Yeah, he proposed to me a couple of days ago," she said shyly. And suddenly she realized that she has no rings on her finger, "Um, he didn't give me any ring but he gave me this!" she took the black card and showed it to them, of course, she covered Luke's name so the oriental woman couldn't see it. She knew Luke was going to kill her after that!
"That was odd..." said the oriental woman, grimacing.
"I know, well enjoy your vacation! I'll just leave..." she stepped back before her mouth could say more unexpected words.
She laughed out loud as she got a little further away from them. She loved seeing the tension on Luke's face and enjoyed every second of it. Luke must have been afraid that she would leak out their wedding plans to her. She was increasingly convinced that the oriental woman must be his ex-girlfriend whom he loved very much.
Wandering aimlessly exhausted her, she finally opened an internet search engine and she found her destination, Bruges Market Square!
It was already 7:00 pm when she reached Bruges Market Square. She seemed enchanted by the beauty of Bruges Market Square which was surrounded by ancient medieval buildings with European colors, and dim yellow lights that made the romantic impression even more pronounced. Unfortunately, she was alone in that beautiful place.
She stopped at a cafe that sold hot chocolate because she was starting to get addicted to the delicious taste of real Belgian chocolate.
She casually sat on a chair on the outside of the building while slowly sipping her hot chocolate. She was very happy to see people passing by, it was not as busy as the holidays in other seasons. But winter was more impressive in her opinion.
She didn't know if Bruges was that narrow, or because she was unlucky, but again she saw Luke and the oriental woman standing not far from her. Both of their faces looked equally serious.
She inched closer and hid behind a large standing banner that could cover almost her entire body and started to listen to their conversation.
"It's not that easy Luke,"
said the woman, touching Luke's arm gently.
"What else are you thinking? I've been waiting for three years and you still say it's not that easy? Well! It's not easy, but for me not for you!" he snapped, his face was hardening.
The oriental woman let out a long sigh.
"Give me time to think about it, please!"
she took a step forward looking up at Luke who was taller than her.
Luke closed his eyes for a moment, then hugged her and sighed as if he was removing a heavy burden from his shoulders. While he was hugging the oriental woman, his eyes accidentally caught something at the bottom of the standing banner which was about two meters away from him. The toe of the shoes he had seen so often in the past few days, the shoes used by a stranger who had always been beside him lately, it was Beatrice's shoes.
Beatrice, who noticed Luke was glancing down at the standing banner, immediately ran away from them. She didn't know why she was so annoyed to see him hugging that woman. Was it because she was jealous of that woman or was it because she was afraid that he would cancel the contract so she has to marry Gary Martin.
She breathed out heavily and walked back to the hotel with a gloomy face.
