You Only Get to See Our Twins in My Corpse

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

I don't even want to think about the agony I went through trying to bring these babies into the world.

When I pulled the first child out, it was already lifeless. Blood poured from the gaping wound between my legs, and the second baby got stuck, wedged in the torn, bloody hole.

With my hair matted in blood, I cradled the lifeless body, staring down at it in numb shock. My chest tightened, breath freezing in my lungs.

I couldn't help but wonder how Alexander would react when he saw this scene.

But for now, his focus was solely on Evelyn. He held her close, his voice thick with guilt and self-reproach.

"It's my fault. I should've never let Lily, pregnant and all, come around and make you upset. I swear, this is the last time she'll ever carry a child for me. No more pregnant women in this house, not ever again."

"You have no idea. She even tried to lie to me, softening me up with some excuse that the babies were too big and the doctor recommended immediate hospitalization because of the risk of a difficult delivery."

"She survived three days in the wilderness without food or water, but now she's telling me she's afraid of childbirth?"

My heart twisted, a weight crushing my chest.

Pregnancy had nearly destroyed me. Carrying twins had been a nightmare, with endless discomfort. There were days I could barely keep food down. I'd been hospitalized more than once to avoid a miscarriage.

When I was first locked in that attic, I begged him to let me out.

If I stayed there for three days, we would all die. There was no way around it.

But Alexander didn't care. Right in front of me, he ordered the butler with cold finality:

"Go! Throw the key into a dirty river, and don't let anyone open that door for Lily. After three days, I want her on her knees, apologizing to Evelyn."

To survive, I tore down the paintings on the walls, my hands soaked in blood, scraping at them in desperation. My nails snapped off as I clawed at the window.

Pain roared through my body, but I had to try. I climbed out the window, gripping the rain gutter, inching my way along, hoping to make it to the other room.

But then I saw it.

In the garden below, Alexander and Evelyn were wrapped up in each other. He held her tight, kissing her deeply, desperately.

Their kiss was reckless, and I knew it wouldn't stop until things went too far.

Then Evelyn pulled away, eyes darting up to the attic, and her scream shattered the air, sharp and blood-curdling.

Alexander looked up, saw me scrambling to escape, and snapped.

He thought I was trying to provoke Evelyn, so he ordered the butler to bring a crane.

The machine roared to life, and Alexander took control of it, using the scoop to press against my belly, shoving me back into the attic.

Pain shot through me, sharp and violent, as blood poured out, streaming down my legs.

In the end, I lay there, eyes wide, clutching the lifeless children in my arms.

That was the moment I stopped breathing.

Meanwhile, Alexander brought a cup of warm milk to Evelyn's lips.

"I've already sent someone to bring Lily here to apologize. If she's sincere, we'll send her to the hospital. If not, she'll stay locked in the attic."

Evelyn sipped at the milk, coughing a little, her tears spilling over as she looked so fragile, so delicate.

"Brother Alex, you can't treat sister Lily like this. Childbirth... it's so dangerous for women..."

Alexander sighed, looking down at her with that unbearable, doting gaze.

"You're too kind, Evelyn. That's why women like Lily take advantage of you. She's a survival expert, she could go three days without food or water. Meanwhile, you're so fragile, you choke on a sip of milk."

He tapped her nose playfully. "And you talk about childbirth being dangerous, like you've ever given birth before!"

For a moment, panic flickered in Evelyn's eyes, but she quickly lowered her gaze, voice laced with feigned vulnerability.

"Only you, Brother Alex, can see through the tough exterior to the fragile heart underneath..."

She raised her eyes again, glistening with unshed tears, lips swollen and glossy.

She slid her arms around his neck, deliberately pressing her chest against his.
