Chapter 18 The Old House
Chapter 18 The Old House
"You won." Patrick glared at the two people, gritted his teeth, and turned to run.
Jovanny, however, wouldn't let him run like that. He grabbed Patrick's wrist and yanked him back.
"Let go of me!" Patrick struggled desperately, trying to break free, but Jovanny's hands were like pincers.
Patrick stomped his feet on the ground and tried to pull his hand back as hard as he could. Unexpectedly, Jovanny suddenly released him. Due to the inertia, Patrick withdrew several steps and fell heavily on the ground in a comical manner.
Patrick blushed all of a sudden, maybe because of anger or embarrassment. He had never been humiliated like that. Moreover, he was very vain.
At that moment, he wanted to kill Jovanny and Gracelyn.
But now that the police were coming, he could only swallow his anger and turn to run out.
Gracelyn stared blankly at his back. Patrick lost face this time.
She turned to look at Jovanny with a somewhat complicated expression. "Thank you."
"If this happens again, remember to call the police."
Jovanny said that and left. Gracelyn froze. She hurriedly picked up the bank card on the ground and looked back. There were no police.
Gracelyn followed Jovanny.
The two went back to the house. Gracelyn watched him take his laptop out and work in the living room.
Jovanny hadn't been back for the last couple of days, and she didn't know what he had done.
Gracelyn asked tentatively, "Did you find a job?"
Jovanny's fingers paused as he glanced up at Gracelyn. "Yes."
"What job is it?" When Gracelyn asked this, she subconsciously glanced at the document on his desk. There was a clear S&C logo on it.
Jovanny was about to speak when the doorbell suddenly rang.
Gracelyn had to put this matter aside and hurried to open the door.
When she opened the door, there were four people standing outside, including a middle-aged couple, a young man, and a young woman.
Gracelyn's eyes lit up when she saw them. " Brandon, Laurie, George. How did you guys get back so soon?"
George was the first to squeeze through the door and give her a big hug. "Gracelyn, I missed you so much!"
Gracelyn could hardly breathe from his hug. She slapped George's arm. "That's enough."
"Now, hurry up and get inside," Laurie urged.
George chuckled, let go of Gracelyn, and headed inside with their belongings.
Gracelyn's eyes fell on that girl's face. She looked fair, beautiful, and almost as tall as George. She was about 167 cm tall.
No wonder Brandon and his family rushed back to hold a wedding for them. George didn't even go to junior high school and only earned one thousand dollars every month. It was a miracle that he could find such a wonderful girlfriend.
Laurie used to look down on Gracelyn, but after hearing that Gracelyn had money to buy a house, Laurie became particularly warm to her. Laurie took the girl's hand and introduced her to Gracelyn.
"Grace, this is Lily Tyler, George's girlfriend."
Gracelyn smiled and nodded at her. "Hello, Lily."
Lily sized Gracelyn up from head to toe, and then she gave a fake smile. "Hello."
After that, she carried her bag into the house.
Everyone froze when they entered the house and saw Jovanny on the sofa.
"Who is this?" Brandon asked.
Gracelyn ran over. "He is..."
She glanced at Jovanny, who was looking like his usual self, and said shyly, "He's my husband."
"What?"
George and Brandon were both dumbfounded. George pulled Gracelyn aside and asked quietly, "He doesn't look like the man in the picture you sent me. Did he have plastic surgery?"
Gracelyn pinched him. "No. He's Jovanny. Do you remember?"
George was dazed. He thought for a while, but he still couldn't remember. Gracelyn reminded him, "Philip's grandson."
George slapped his thighs. "My goodness! I didn't recognize him!"
As if he had discovered a new world, George left Gracelyn behind, ran over to Jovanny, and sat down. "Jovanny, do you remember me? I'm George. We went to primary school together."
Jovanny frowned. Hearing George babble, he was not in the mood to work. Jovanny closed the laptop and turned to look at George.
George's skin was dark, his teeth were quite white when he smiled, and his eyes looked a bit similar to Gracelyn's.
"Yes. You led your friends to block me in the alley and forced me to do your homework."
George was speechless.
Gracelyn was amazed.
George cleared his throat and smiled with embarrassment, "I was just too young and ignorant, but you were really wicked. You pretended to agree, but then you gave my workbook to my dad, which caused me to get a beating."
Laurie also remembered. She smiled, "I always thought Jovanny was promising. After so many years, he grew more and more handsome. Jovanny, what do you do?"
"Financial work." Jovanny packed all the documents on the table, stood up, and said, "Since you guys are back, I'll not disturb your chat."
He was just about to leave when George made him sit down again. "Where are you going? You're married to Gracelyn, right? We're family now."
"Yeah, it's so late. Let's eat dinner together," Laurie said.
Jovanny wanted to refuse, yet once he looked up and saw Gracelyn staring straight at him, he pondered for a moment. "I'm not leaving. I'll go back to the room."
George let him go then. "I thought you were going out."
Everyone was too busy chatting to notice Lily's eyes on Jovanny.
Gracelyn turned her head and saw Lily's gaze. Gracelyn frowned but said nothing.
Laurie offered to cook dinner. She went out to buy ingredients while Gracelyn came into the room with Brandon and told him about her plan to buy the house.
"You're really going to buy it?" Brandon was a little disapproving, "Look, you're married now, so why don't you buy a house in the city with the money? All the young people want to go to the city, but you want to buy an old house."
Gracelyn smiled, "I think it's quite nice here, and I'm used to living here. I don't want to go to the city. If I have more money in the future, I'll buy a house in the city."
"My grandma often said one should not forget his roots."
Previously, this was a rural area, and then it was developed. The developer compensated her grandmother with this house. The Bart family had lived here for several generations. It would be pitiful to sell it.
Brandon sighed, "Just think it over. What about Jovanny? Does he agree to buy this old house? You two must discuss it. Don't fall out over this matter later."
"I've talked to him." Gracelyn thought that Jovanny was good in this regard. He was unlike Patrick, who wanted her money and pointed fingers at her.
"It's okay since you two reached an agreement."
Gracelyn transferred 35 thousand dollars to Brandon. As for the money in that bank card, she had to let Patrick transfer it to her by himself. That was his card, so she couldn't withdraw money from it. Otherwise, he might cause her trouble in the future.
The door to the room was left open, and Lily heard the conversation clearly from outside.
Lily turned her head and saw Jovanny coming out of the room. Their eyes met. She was caught eavesdropping by Jovanny.
