Chapter 21 Are You Jealous?
Chapter 21 Are You Jealous?
Gracelyn perked up immediately and hurriedly said, "I'm free now."
"Great. I'll send you the address. We can talk more after you arrive."
"OK." Gracelyn didn't take the bus and hailed a taxi to save time.
All she cared about was buying the house at that moment, especially after last night. George and Lily's noise had tortured her till late at night.
Gracelyn merely wanted to get the house as soon as possible so that Brandon could have enough money to buy a house and those two could move downtown.
Judging from the address the business manager sent, the company wasn't too far away. In about 30 minutes, Gracelyn arrived. As she expected, it was a mortgage company.
The name of the company didn't ring a bell. But the person had explained that with Gracelyn's qualifications, she had little chance of getting a loan from the bank. Although the interest was higher, Gracelyn had a better chance with a small mortgage company like this.
Gracelyn did her research online. The interest of a mortgage company was a lot higher than a bank. The highest rate was 14%. Yet, the person told Gracelyn that she could get a loan with a 9% interest rate.
A man in his thirties greeted Gracelyn. He had a slim build and looked friendly.
After Gracelyn followed him inside, the man showed Gracelyn several packages. Gracelyn looked through them and found out that if she had collateral, the interest would be lower. The lowest rate was close to the interest rate of the bank.
However, Gracelyn didn't have any assets that she could mortgage. Her only option was a package with a 10% interest rate. And the company could only lend her 8,000 dollars at best.
"What do you think, Ms. Beck? Do you want to get a loan from us? To be honest, with your qualifications, we can only lend you 8,000 dollars. If you go to a bank, I doubt you can get even 1,500 dollars."
Gracelyn was aware of that. She did a quick math inwardly. If she got a one-year loan of 8,000 dollars, with her current salary, she would be able to pay 800 dollars of interest.
Gracelyn gritted her teeth and nodded. "Fine."
The man beamed. "OK. Please print out your bank statements and your credit reports. I also need a copy of your ID for the procedure."
"Get it." Gracelyn thought for a moment before asking, "How long does the procedure take?"
The man answered with a smile, "It won't take long. As long as your information is verified, we'll give you the loan in 15 days. The review will take 3 to 7 working days. So, you can get the loan in less than a month."
It meant that Gracelyn could have the money in 20 days at best. She stood up and immediately went to the bank to print the files she needed.
When Gracelyn worked at the ATM, Brenden happened to come to the bank. He eyed Gracelyn curiously and paused before approaching her.
"Hello, Ms. Beck."
Gracelyn jumped and turned. "Mr. Sturt, are you here for business?"
Brenden nodded with a smile. "Yes. What are you doing here?"
"I...I'm here for business too." Gracelyn forced a smile and scooted backward to block Brenden's gaze.
However, Brenden had noticed that Gracelyn was printing her bank statements and credit reports. It wasn't hard for him to know what she was up to.
Brenden didn't ask more questions and only smiled. He nodded again and went to the VIP room.
Gracelyn relaxed after watching Brenden enter the room. She fled from the bank as soon as the files were printed.
When Brenden came out, Gracelyn was nowhere to be found. He rubbed his chin and hurried back to his car.
Brenden drove back to the company. Since it was the weekend, the office was almost empty.
Brenden went directly to the president's office. Jovanny was inside as he expected. However, instead of working, Jovanny was sleeping on the couch.
Jovanny was lying on the couch and covered his head with his suit jacket. His legs were too long and one of them had to drop to the ground.
Brenden walked over and lifted the jacket without hesitation.
Jovanny automatically raised his hand to block out the blinding light.
"Where did you go last night? Why are you sleeping in the office? Did your wife kick you out?" Brenden teased and sat down next to Jovanny.
It took a while for Jovanny to wake up completely. He propped himself up. A few strings of hair dropped and blocked his eyes. Jovanny glanced at Brenden.
"What are you doing here?"
Brenden looked Jovanny up and down before saying, "Guess who I met in the bank earlier?"
"I don't care." Jovanny picked up a cigarette and put it in his mouth. He tilted his head as he lit the cigarette.
The smoke surrounded the two men. The weather was nice and the sunlight shone into the room through the floor-to-ceiling window, turning the thin smoke into golden mist.
"I met Gracelyn," Brenden said.
Jovanny paused and looked at Brenden. "You show a lot of interest in her."
Brenden said frankly, "Of course. She's the one woman that wins your heart. And she can kick you out and make you sleep in the office. I'm more interested in her now."
Jovanny took a long drag of his cigarette and puffed out a thick circle of smoke.
"If you have nothing better to do, go abroad. I have work piling up for you there."
Brenden's smile deepened. "Are you jealous?"
Jovanny ignored him.
Brenden carried on saying, "Gracelyn was printing out her bank statements and credit reports. Shouldn't you give money to your wife? Why does she have to get a loan? No wonder she kicked you out?"
"What? A loan?"
"Dud. Why would she need those files if she wasn't getting a loan? You're not a good husband. People will laugh at you if they find out about this."
With his cigarette between his fingers, Jovanny stared at the floor silently as if he were in deep thought.
Jovanny thought, "I gave her 35 thousand dollars to buy the house. Yet, she needs to get a loan. Is 35 thousand dollars not enough or is she trying to support her uncle?"
Based on Jovanny's observation these days, Gracelyn wasn't an extravagant person. She didn't have luxuries or expensive cosmetics. She showered with one-dollar soap.
Therefore, Jovanny doubted Gracelyn was getting a loan for herself.
Jovanny immediately thought of Patrick. Maybe the money was for another man.
Jovanny was shocked by his own trail of thoughts. Subconsciously, he had divided the men in Gracelyn's life into two kinds. Himself and the other men.
Soon, Jovanny convinced himself that this was normal.
"Hey, earth to Mr. Latimer." Brenden tapped Jovanny.
Jovanny sprung to his feet, grabbed his suit jacket, and left.
Jovanny wandered around causally in his car. When he drove past the café, for some unknown reason, Jovanny turned and looked inside.
Surprise. He saw the exact same scene.
Gracelyn and Randy were sitting across from each other in the same seats.
Gracelyn asked Randy out to talk about Patrick. She also wanted Randy to check the mortgage papers for her.
Randy went through the mortgage papers carefully and looked at Gracelyn with a strange look.
Gracelyn's heart sank. "Randy... Is there something wrong with the mortgage papers?"
"What's the point? You've signed it. Why didn't you bring me to the company with you?"
Gracelyn was shocked. "Seriously? I didn't want to bother you. If you didn't call me earlier, I wouldn't ask you to go through it.
"Tell me. What's the problem?"
