Married to the Billionaire by Chance

Chapter 27 Your Wife Has Come to Pick You Up

Gracelyn frowned and shook her head. "I'm sorry, Allyson, but I can't help you this time."

"I promise it won't happen again. I've been busy lately so I forgot to take attendance. Could you please just lend me a hand? I'll treat you to a meal."

Gracelyn still shook her head. "I can't. Rosa has signed the attendance record and the salary sheet. I have no way to help you."

Allyson's face sank. "I'm already so humble to you. Will you just watch?"

"There's no way I can help."

Allyson laughed out of anger. She shook off Gracelyn's arms. "Never mind. It's just hundreds of dollars, so what if it's gone? If I earned as much money as you do, I wouldn't have bothered to come here."

After that, she deliberately mumbled, "You just use a worthless thing like an order. Do you think of yourself as the real superior?"

Allyson seemed to say this to Gracelyn. After that, she left on high heels.

Allyson fell out with her this time even if she had helped her a lot in the past. Gracelyn found it sarcastic.

They rarely had interactions at work, so Gracelyn didn't mind Allyson falling out with her. She just found that Allyson changed so fast.

Patrick and Allyson were the same. They could be good friends when no interests were involved.

But when it came to benefits, they would turn back on each other at any time.

Gracelyn thought about Jovanny. Would he act the same when his interests were affected?

In the afternoon, Gracelyn knocked off early. She didn't go home. Instead, she went to a store selling e-bikes.

Second-hand e-bikes were cheap, and many of them were quite new. The main point was that she could drive it away after paying without waiting.

The owner of the store was a man in his forties. He was squatting on the ground with a bowl in his hand, eating. When Gracelyn told her why she was there, he raised his chin, unconcerned.

"Feel free to look around."

Gracelyn nodded. She went into the store and found that it was filled with e-bikes, both old and new.

She took a fancy to a new e-bike. It was a pink bike with a bit of yellowness. She could tell from a glance that its previous owner was a woman, and she asked the shopkeeper about its price.

The man looked back. "250 dollars if you want it. No bargaining."

"I'll take it." Gracelyn took out her phone to pay. The price wasn't high for her.

Gracelyn purchased the e-bike, and the man gave her two helmets. Both of them were pink, and she changed one of them to a black one.

She drove the e-bike around. There was 50% of the power left, and she didn't find any problem with the bike.

Therefore, she opened the navigation app and drove to Jovanny's company to pick him up after work for the first day.

The advantage of the small size of the e-bike was displayed in rush hours. Gracelyn arrived downstairs of S&C after a smooth trip.

She looked at the towering building in front of her. She didn't expect it to be owned by S&C. She thought that S&C was just a small company that would own a few floors at most.

It turned out that Jovanny was working in such a big company.

She parked the bike and texted Jovanny. "I've arrived. How long do you still need to work?"

Jovanny frowned upon seeing this message. Did Gracelyn really come to pick him up?

The image of him sitting behind Gracelyn on the e-bike flashed across his mind. He ignored this message.

But not long after, Gracelyn called him.

Brenden was beside Jovanny, and when he saw the memo on his phone, he smiled. "Your wife is calling. Why do you not answer it?"

Jovanny put the phone on the table with its back up and continued reading the document at hand.

Brenden thought of something. He walked to the window, looked down, and saw Gracelyn, who was sitting on the e-bike downstairs.

He couldn't help bursting into laughter.

Brenden looked back. "Mr. Latimer, your wife has come to pick you up. Why don't you get down?"

"Shut up." Jovanny closed the document and cast Brenden cold gazes.

Brenden wasn't terrified at all, and he still smiled. "All the employees will get off work if you don't go now, and at that time, all of them will see your wife picking you up with an e-bike."

Jovanny's temples twitched.

Gracelyn called Jovanny twice but he didn't pick it up. She couldn't help wondering if he was busy.

Perhaps, it was because he just went to work so he had a lot to do.

So, she parked the bike in an inconspicuous place, took a photo, and sent it to him. "I'll be waiting for you here. Come here after you're done."

Unexpectedly, Jovanny soon replied to this message. "No need. I have to work overtime. Go back by yourself."

Gracelyn was stunned by the message. Did he have to work overtime?

She sighed and responded. "Are you going to work late? I'll be waiting for you."

"Yes. Go back."

Gracelyn seemed to be able to imagine Jovanny's expression after seeing these cold words on the screen.

She couldn't say anything else since this was Jovanny's decision. She had to ride back home with the e-bike.

She bought groceries on the way and went back to Philip's place to cook for him.

Brandon owned this house now, so Laurie would be displeased if Philip went over frequently. Therefore, Gracelyn decided to eat with Philip.

Gracelyn didn't stay long. After finishing dinner, she did the dishes before going home.

As soon as she entered the door, she heard Brandon and Laurie talking about the car.

Seeing Gracelyn's arrival, Laurie asked her to come over. "Grace, come here."

Gracelyn changed her shoes and strode over. "What's the matter?"

Laurie held Gracelyn's hand with tears. "We visited your cousin today. He was fined and would be detained for 15 days."

Gracelyn comforted Laurie. "It'll just be 15 days. He'll soon be released."

Laurie wiped away her tears and changed the topic. "Have you handled the accident last night? How much do we have to pay?"

Gracelyn subconsciously looked at Brandon after hearing this. Brandon was peeling an orange with his head lowered.

Gracelyn looked away and said to Laurie. "25,000 dollars. Laurie, Brandon, could you pay part of it?"

"That much?" Laurie became guilty. "How could we afford that?"

Gracelyn said, "Jovanny just got a job, and I don't earn a high salary, so I can't give you another 25,000 dollars. The 35,000 dollars I gave to Brandon yesterday was all I had."

Laurie smiled awkwardly. "How about you borrow some money from your friends?"

Gracelyn nodded, pondering. "We'll try our best. It's just that we still need 16,000 dollars to buy this house."

"Well..."

Laurie looked at Gracelyn, in a dilemma. Obviously, she wanted the 80 thousand dollars but not the debt of compensation.

Gracelyn could guess what Laurie was thinking from her face, so she continued, "Jovanny's car has been dragged away. You should at least do something, right?"

Laurie still hesitated.

"How about this? You'll pay 16 thousand dollars and we will pay 8,000 dollars to show Jovanny our sincerity."

Laurie said anxiously, "Grace, we should discuss this. Jovanny hasn't returned, right?"

"Laurie, I just married Jovanny. I wouldn't put you in a difficult situation if the car had been mine. I did everything for your and Brandon's good, so you should stand in my shoes, right?"
